Protests Erupt in Israel after Netanyahu Fires Defense Minister

Protests have erupted in Israel after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired the country's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Netanyahu first fired Gallant in March 2023 following their disagreement over controversial plans to overhaul the justice system. But he was forced to retract the sacking following massive public protests in several cities in Israel - an event that became known as "Gallant Night."

He warns that the "discriminatory, corrupt law" on Haredi enlistment that the coalition is pushing must not be allowed to pass.

On the hostages in Gaza, he hints strongly that Israel should take a deal to get the hostages out even if it leaves Hamas in Gaza.

"Whoever dies among the hostages can never be returned. There isn't and will never be atonement for abandoning the hostages. It will become a mark of Cain on the forehead of Israeli society, and on those who are leading this mistaken path."

The report says it was not immediately clear if the raid was connected to a probe into leaks of war intelligence from the PMO, or a second investigation that was revealed today, apparently linked to reported efforts by Netanyahu to doctor minutes of war meetings."
