2024's Other Big Loser -- Mainstream Media

Will Bunch: As an electorate besieged by disinformation turned to Trump, trust in traditional media has imploded. What comes next?

FTA:

The things that pundits have been talking about since Tuesday--an economy that hasn't worked for the working class since the time of Ronald Reagan, anxieties among white voters about a potential end to white privilege and the patriarchy, and a Democratic Party that's lost touch with the great American middle--all factored into this election. But nothing mattered more than this: Donald Trump was returned to power by the most badly informed electorate in modern American history.

"by the campaign's waning days in Latrobe last month, every voter now blurted out the same thing: They are getting their information from X, where its pro-Trump owner billionaire Musk made false or misleading claims that received an estimated two billion views."

"It's no wonder, then, that voters seemed to vote against their own self-interest on Tuesday. In a must-read analysis for Salon, the Philadelphia-based journalist Amanda Marcotte broke down the red states that voted heavily for Trump on the same day the public approved ballot measures that enshrined abortion rights or raised the minimum wage or made it easier for unions to organize " the opposite of Trump's stances or the Project 2025 blueprint he's expected to mostly follow. That dovetails with the survey in which voters " when blindly given a choice between Trump's policy agenda and Harris' proposals went strongly for the ideas of the Democrat who would lose."

This is 100% self inflicted.

This was 100% planned destruction of the verity of the media by rwing fanatics, beginning with Rush Limbaugh and Rupert Murdock.

Another poster blaming X and Musk. You know how you punish him? Delete your accounts. I'm shocked the Retort still allows X to be used on this site 24/7 for a news source and fashion advice.

Credibility is earned, Corky. These people have largely eschewed traditional journalistic practices and have been engaging in activist "journalism" for decades. The results are very predictable.

Yawn.... Nothing New Here.

Trump isn't a New Thing, just a New Bottle for Old Wine.

The Media creates the Zeitgeist.

Lawerence O'Donnell isn't on the list. How is he faring? After Trump was elected in 2016, he was the only one I could stand watching on poliitics for a very long time.

... What comes next? ...

Pres-elect Trump kicks valid news reporting out of the Briefing Room in favor of allowing more MAGA-propaganda-based media into the room.

Trump expected to shake up White House briefing room

... A new Trump administration is expected to challenge traditions in the famous James Brady Press Briefing Room, sources told Axios.

Why it matters: Confidants of President-elect Trump are considering changes that would give newer, MAGA-aligned voices access to daily press briefings. ...

I'm missing something somewhere......"trending politics"....and I'm out of time

I see nothing of O'donnel and maddow and that doesn't make sense...unless they didn't drop......

and then it talks about CNN...

..2016 election coverage 13.3 million viewers

2024 coverage 5.1 and then talks about salaries....

--maybe after lunch

Maddow is only on one night a week, so that's why she might not be on the list. I don't under about O'Donnell though.

#17 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2024-11-13 11:57 AM

As far as I know, Maddow is only on Monday nights, and O'Donnell is on M-Th.

The owners of "major media" are complicit in Project 2025, if not actively involved. Something about Media companies with huge government contracts that invites conflict of interest concerns.

Just look to Putin's empire to understand what is coming next. Independent media will be strangled, legally, and then all that will be left will be the propaganda outlets, in the US Rupert Murdoch's brainwashers will be the only voice around. And simple minded Americans have shown how vulnerable they are, we are, to night and day propaganda.
