Fluoride Analysis Triggers Renewed Debate

This week, government scientists published a paper in the medical journal JAMA Pediatrics that has added to the debate. It is the analysis behind a 300-page report released last August from the National Toxicology Program, part of the National Institutes of Health That report concluded with "moderate confidence" that there may be a link between high levels of fluoride exposure and lowered IQ.

From the cited article ...

... Most communities in the U.S. add fluoride to the tap water. It has been common practice for nearly 80 years to protect against tooth decay and cavities, and it's considered a major achievement in public health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says research shows that community water fluoridation reduces cavities by around 25%. ...

That report concluded with "moderate confidence" that there may be a link between high levels of fluoride exposure and lowered IQ. This could indicate possible neurodevelopmental harms to pregnant people or young children, when they are exposed to drinking water containing at least 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter -- a level more than twice what's recommended (0.7 mg/L) for the U.S. water supply. ...

OK, so I have to ask, what drinking water has a floride level higher than the higher than the ... when they are exposed to drinking water containing at least 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter -- a level more than twice what's recommended (0.7 mg/L) for the U.S. water supply. ...

And, if those suppliers of such water, why are they seeming to ignore the Federal recommendations?

Makes sense! I've resolutely avoided fluoride my entire life and I'm the smartest person I know!

Damn dude. That's hilarious!

Way to destroy the entire premise of thread.

But if it's something we decided to do 80 years ago it is probably a good idea to re-evaluate how effective and safe it is. (Remembering the whole leaded gasoline stupidity)

The peer reviews aren't that great though.

Looks like we need a better analysis than this one.

Yay! We now know that too much can be harmful! Like with EVERYTHING ELSE.

Water?
Needed to exist and to live.
Too much water? Death.

Salt?
Needed to live.
Too much? Death.

Nutmeg?
Adds to the pleasure of life (for some).
Too much? Death.

Aspirin? Antibiotics? Cold temperatures? High temperatures? Not moving?

Seriously - we've known this about fluoride for ages. So far nothing's changed that.

Mercury used to fill teeth really tops the criteria for evil industry.

Universal Healthcare would prioritize this study, imo.

key words: "as Flouride levels increase."
Which we knew all along.
And no, we aren't flouridating water at those levels.

If only we had universal healthcare.

Conspiracy cranks talk about how space aliens are poisoning our water with fluoride to control our minds, so there is a new, well-reasoned debate now?

The disintegration of mental health in this country is almost complete.

Agreed, poisoning has been legislated through a lack of scientific rigor, which should be alarming.

But then we have those who claim it's just a conspiracy theory and not a conspiracy fact.

You should stay off the tap, bud. Stick with the PCB's in mineral water.
