The Biggest Myths of Modern Christianity

The Christianity of the modern Western world has inherited some majorly faulty views of both God and the good news. We're often led to believe that God is either a) a long way away and disinterested in humanity or b) angry at humanity.

More

Fortunately for us, the good news of the gospel stands these assumptions on their head, instead revealing a God of love and good creation.

Comments

The current biggest myth in America is that Trump is somehow a Christian (burp!).

But this short 4 min vid points out the Epicurean influence that got us where we are today. Which hasn't been helped by the false view in Western Christianity that Heaven is up there somewhere, and that there is such a thing as the Rapture, which no one in the East believes.

The actual teaching is that Heaven and Earth are side by side; the Seen and the Unseen, and that they will come together in the end as they are meant to.

From the video introduction,

"We're often led to believe that God is either a) a long way away and disinterested in humanity or b) angry at humanity."

If that's his assertion he will be talking about in his video, I have no desire to watch it or know anything about this man.

I've never been led to believe either of them.

No wonder atheists are so confused about Christianity.

You're hilarious, Willy J.

As is your reading/watching comprehension.

That quote is what he set up to knock down, duffus. Perhaps you should watch first and type later.

Or better yet, read the Time article and learn something about the religion you claim to be part of.

A 5 min read, and even an atheist would know more about the religion than most so-called Christians in this country.

Corky,

"The current biggest myth in America is that Trump is somehow a Christian"

Nope...I don't positively believe that either.

I'd replace is with may be.

As it stands I don't believe what you said is a true statement.

Strike 3.....you're out.

#6 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-23 04:15 PM

Corky,

"That quote is what he set up to knock down, duffus"

I could say, "We're often led to believe the moon is either a) made of cheese or b) inhabited by moon-men."

Now I'll made a video explaining why that's not true.

How about I don't waste my time watching the video?

#7 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-23 04:19 PM

You never made it to the plate, silly boy.

Donald Trump perfectly fits ALL of the descriptions of the Man of Sin (not that you are familiar with the term) in your bible.

He is vile, a liar, a bully, a hater, a serial adulterer, an adjudicated rapist and a convicted Felon.... why is he your hero again??

#8 | Posted by Corky at 2025-01-23 04:20 PM

How about you are afraid you might learn something from the video and or the Time link... which you could have already done had you not spent time whining about something you haven't seen or read?

#9 | Posted by Corky at 2025-01-23 04:22 PM

Corky,

Sounds like you're in the middle of spirtual warfare.

You seem to be fairly fixated.

On this earth, as a Christian, you need to be ever vigilant what evil ideas you let yourself get exposed to.

Corky,

"He is vile, a liar, a bully, a hater, a serial adulterer, an adjudicated rapist and a convicted Felon.... why is he your hero again??"

Strike 4....you still swinging?

He's not my hero.

As far as the rest of it...sort of a moot point now doncha think?

#11 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-23 04:31 PM

hahaha!

You are prissy little ----, aren't you?

The article and vid author holds an Oxford Chair and was an Anglican Bishop. Also a scholar of ancient history, including being considered the foremost in his field of Old and NT studies by other such scholars.

But you are too stultified (look it up) in your 'thinking' to open your closed mind.

Pretty sad really when someone like BJ is so afraid of learning about... anything, really... that they refuse to even consider anything other than what's already in their head.

Fear is the mind killer.

#14 | Posted by Corky at 2025-01-23 04:42 PM

BullJohnson is a scared kid who forced himself to conform to the expectations of others.

Now he expects everyone else to as well.

He's no Christian. He's a cultist.

#15 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-01-23 04:51 PM

Corky,

"Oxford Chair and was an Anglican Bishop. Also a scholar of ancient history, including being considered the foremost in his field of Old and NT studies by other such scholars."

Then by your logic all Biblical scholars with established positions agree on everything since they all are experts.

Can you explain why they don't all agree?

Remember when you go to the doctor, someone got the lowest grade in his graduating class.

Back to my post #3, his 2 openly assertions were both bulls***.

You sure know how to pick em.

#16 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-23 05:37 PM

He's not my hero.

You bought a bible from the guy FFS.

#17 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2025-01-23 05:39 PM

He's who you wish you could be. Just own it, bill.

#18 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2025-01-23 05:39 PM

And the sneakers.

And the guitar.

And the cryptocurrency.

#19 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-01-23 05:40 PM

Corky,

He sounds like he's been dealing with people coming to him who had a harsh upbringing and/or a very harsh view of God perhaps from their church.

Again...I'm not interested in hearing about that perspective because I don't have that in my life and don't wish to pollute my mind with such negative thinking about God.

#20 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-23 05:51 PM

BullBringer is a victim of abuse.

Any impure thoughts have to be cleansed through flagellation.

One once the tainted blood is removed from his body will he be pure in Christ's eyes once more.

#21 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-01-23 05:53 PM

Biggest myth? That he's coming back.

Not supported by the text, or the last 2000 years

#22 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2025-01-23 05:53 PM

BullBringer should read BullJohnson.

Even though both posters write like they're the same person.

#23 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-01-23 05:55 PM

a) a long way away and disinterested in humanity or b) angry at humanity.

This is false, the best description of Christianity comes from Seneca, of all people.

"Cherish some man of admirable character, and keep him always in your thoughts, living as if he's watching you, and ordering all your actions as if he'd be watching them"
~ Seneca

No offense, but you're missing Corkster's objective, this is angling to make Trump bad Bishop good BS.

Ignoring the Laken Riley incidents in the US.

#25 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-01-23 06:08 PM

- his 2 openly assertions were both bulls***. (opening, presumably

Your reading comprehension is what is bullsnot.

Anyone reading his opening is looking at you like, "hey, what the F are you talking about?" because the opening is no problem for anyone else but you. They get it, you don't.

I'm betting that happens to you a lot, but that you are used to it by now.

#26 | Posted by Corky at 2025-01-23 06:59 PM

That was like... totally incoherent. Almost like 1Nut wrote it.

The 1Nut Incidents on these pages is increasingly disturbing. I may hire someone to pray for him.

It's almost like BJ and 1Nut have English as a second language? They don't understand that the second sentence stands the aforementioned "assumptions on their heads" in the only other sentence?

What? They got their reading comprehension skills at Walmart?

Now that you mention it, I sense they both sit in the bedroom waiting for their wives to not have sex with them, and posting here is what they do while they wait.
