Trump Fires 17 Independent Inspectors General

In a late night purge Friday, President Donald Trump Fired 17 inspectors general who work as watchdogs at multiple government agencies.

Via Politico: The Council of Inspectors General say Trump's attempted purge is NOT "legally sufficient to dismiss" IGs, because it clearly violates federal law. Suggests that at least some IGs will attempt to remain at their posts. Get ready for a court battle.

Pres Trump seems to have a need to get rid of those people who do not regularly kiss his ample derriere.

Here we go. I predicted this had to occur. Because they all have to go if Trumpy is gonna make any progress with project 2025 and becoming dictator for life. These are the democratic guardrails that keep executives in check and within the law.

Are you defending the IGs?

The countries government is in shambles. Most Departments and Agencies can't pass an audit. (DOE, DOD, DOEducation) Who is being held responsible?

No one, why? Because of the IG's.

I think this is good if he hires people that actually take care of the Taxpayers money.

@#2 ... These are the democratic guardrails that keep executives in check and within the law. ...

Agreed.

Pres Trump seems to be removing all the checks and balances in the Government that would restrict his ability to just dictate what he wants to do.

"The countries government is in shambles."

Maga broke it so now maga owns it. Temporarily.

"Because of the IG's."

You obviously don't even know what an IG does. And now you hate them because Trumpy told you to.

Without IGs it would be a free for all. Federal Agencies could violate the law and our civil rights at will.

Which is what Trumpy wants. Obviously.

Trump's dismissal of inspectors general raises concerns over accountability
www.scrippsnews.com

... President Donald Trump fired at least 10-12 inspectors general late Friday and did not follow the 30-day congressional notification that requires providing a specific rationale or case-specific reason, according to a former inspector general community official.

Some of the firings involved the State Department, according to the source. A White House official also confirmed that there were several inspectors general dismissed.

The Inspector General Reform Act of 2008 requires the president to "communicate in writing the substantive rationale, including detailed and case-specific reasons for any such removal or transfer to both Houses of Congress not later than 30 days before the removal or transfer."

Sen. Chuck Grassley, who leads the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed his concern about the firings.

"There may be good reason the IGs were fired. We need to know that if so," Sen. Chuck Grassley, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said in a statement. "I'd like further explanation from President Trump. Regardless, the 30-day detailed notice of removal that the law demands was not provided to Congress," said Grassley, R-Iowa.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, was more direct in her criticism.

"It's a purge of independent watchdogs in the middle of the night," she said. "Inspectors general are charged with rooting out government waste, fraud, abuse, and preventing misconduct. President Trump is dismantling checks on his power and paving the way for widespread corruption." ...

So, did Pres Trump break the law by firing them without proper notice to Congress.

Oh wait, does that even matter anymore because of the recent SCOTUS ruling on immunity.

IGs were not/or were under performing, so new ones will be selected as happens. Let's just look at one: Do you really think the one overseeing the Pentagon was on top of things???

FYI: "Mission

"Under the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, the role of federal IGs is to prevent and detect waste, fraud, and abuse relating to their agency's programs and operations, and to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the agency's operations and programs."

Yes.

And it matters to the IGs who can take it to court.

And they will. Of course they will. They are law professionals. And they will prevail but meanwhile it still mucks up the system (err deep state?) as intended.

Re 8

Your post does nothing to justify the firing of inspectors general.

The Orange King is trampling on the law. Unless they come up with detailed and case-specific reasons these IGs will be reinstated with back pay and damages.

"communicate in writing the substantive rationale, including detailed and case-specific reasons for any such removal or transfer to both Houses of Congress not later than 30 days before the removal or transfer."

How will any of this decrease the cost of eggs?

How will any of this decrease the cost of eggs?

It won't, but it might open the giant faucet that diverts the Columbia River to Los Angeles.

LOL.

Trump doesn't want anybody outside his Circle of Grift keeping tabs on his con game.
