Bird Flu Studies Delayed as White House Suspends CDC Reports

As a bird flu outbreak escalates across the United States, the Trump administration has paused the release of key public health studies, stalling research that could provide insight into how the virus spreads to animals and people.

You know how the Trump admin blocked publication of the CDC's weekly morbidity and mortality report, which until now had been released every single week since 1952? Turns out last week's report would have included 2 important new studies on bird flu transmission. kffhealthnews.org/news/article ...

... The blocked studies were supposed to be published in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, a respected journal that has reported on health threats since 1952.

One of the studies examines whether veterinarians working with cattle have unknowingly been infected, and another explores whether people may have passed the virus to pet cats, according to CNN.

These reports could help scientists track and prevent future infections.

But a new memo from the Department of Health and Human Services has placed an "immediate pause" on communications. Approval is now required from a presidential appointee before publishing, according to the memo.

"This idea that science cannot continue until there's a political lens over it is unprecedented," Dr. Anne Schuchat, a former principal deputy director at the CDC, told CNN. "I hope it's going to be very short-lived, but if it's not short-lived, it's censorship."

Public health experts warn that delaying research on bird flu could put veterinarians, farmworkers and the public at greater risk.

One study, slated to be published last week in the MMWR, looked at cases in Michigan where dairy workers may have transmitted bird flu to their pet cats. ...

Why would Pres Trump want to limit the amount of medical information available?

Along those lines ...

Trump is withdrawing the U.S. from WHO. Here's what that means
www.sciencenews.org

... For the second time, President Donald Trump has announced plans to pull the plug on U.S. support for the World Health Organization. The global health and humanitarian organization works to eradicate disease and track outbreaks, which often ignore international borders.

On January 20, Trump signed an executive order stating the United States' intent to withdraw from the Switzerland-based organization, a process that takes 12 months. His first attempt to exit the WHO in July 2020 was thwarted by President Joe Biden, who took office in 2021 and reversed the decision.

The United States helped found WHO in 1948. "For over seven decades, WHO and the USA have saved countless lives," the organization said in a statement. "Together, we ended smallpox, and together we have brought polio to the brink of eradication." ...

The WHO seems to be an example of American Excellence, something that Pres Trump seems to promote.

So, why end the US membership?

Bird flu studies delayed as WH suspends CDC reports

So, you're saying that Trump stopped bird flu? The man truly is the messiah!

Trump tax cut for himself is more important than the life of every person living in America.

@#4 ... So, you're saying that Trump stopped bird flu? ...

Nah.

To me, it looks like Pres Trump is doing with the bird flu what he did with COVID-19.

An enemy (a virus) is attacking the Country, and Pres Trump seems to side with the enemy and help it attack the Country, killing citizens.

(though, at this point, it is too soon to tell the effects bird flu may have on humans)

Think he was being sarcastic.

Poking fun of the notion that ignoring it will make the problem go away.

Be specific or STFU

Censored may be a genocidal maniac.

But #4 was clearly meant to be funny.

@#7 ... Think he was being sarcastic. ...

Yeah, I picked up on that.

Which is why I just said, "Nah" and moved on.

:)

Clearly?

No, if it was meant to be funny, it would have had at least a hint of humor.

Okay. You're right.

After I posted that I also felt like the word "clearly" didn't belong since you and Lamp had the same reaction to the post.

No humor intended here. Hair Furor is Jesus, Moses, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster all rolled into one.

Hail Trumpf! (pbuh)

A "Presidential appointee?"

In other words someone who kisses the amble derriere of Pres Trump to have gotten the appointment?

And this is beneficial for the health of the Country, how?

THIS is what passes for "common sense" in Trumplandia.

"by having more tests, we have more cases."

"I said to my people, Slow the testing down please,' " the President had said.

Now if they could also 'delay' gain-of-function research in clandestine DoD labs ...

Just a hunch.

If we eliminate reports about it, it will cease to exist. Problems solved!
