McElroy / Dechambo in final group at Augusta..BOMBS AWAY !!

---"We have been here before, of course. From Augusta in 2011 to Pinehurst last year, history is instructive, a tournament not over until its over, the presence of DeChambeau a recurring motif. His outstanding finish from the fringe, curling home a putt at the 18th, may in time come to be seen as tournament-turning moment. He is one of few who can stroke-for-stroke with McElroy, but the psychological battle could be just as fascinating. Rory McIlroy takes a two-shot lead into Sunday "

More

REMATCH of last years US Open when the brash DeChambeau beat the laid back Rory by one. Today McElroy had the best start in any round in Masters history hitting his first drive 371 as he started off birdie eagle birdie birdie. ---one thing for sure. It's gonna be a long drive contest but as always in the masters / you club championship / junior girls gold or Tuesday afternoon geriatric open/.....the player who puts best will win

I knew I took a risk talking about anything athletic in a place
flooded with so many pansies.

is first to showcase it's total lack of intellectual acuity.
You have a good day picking your nose after picking your butt.

and then back to your nose......same finger.

Golf is athletic?

At that level it is. Do you see anyone on the PGA tour that looks like Lewzer?

a couple.....but not the young guns...

used to be thought that doing weights ruined the swing

Bryson grip it and rip it and shefflers " two step" has

pretty much ended that discussion.

plus MCElroy lives in a weight room..

yeah I know....my regular game has one guy with a semi full bar

in the back of his cart.

#9 | Posted by shrimptacodan at 2025-04-12 08:23 PM

@#6 ... At that level it is. ...

Leisurely walking around is not athletic.

I consider golf a sport, but not an athletic sport.

Do the golfers sweat because of their ~exertion?~

#10 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-12 08:24 PM

best part may be the mental game ...

bryson is brash....slapping hands between holes..talks to crowd...

rory is stoic....he said in interview that he's gomna stay within himself

bryson said he'll used the crowd to pump him up..

a regenerated battle of JACK versus Trevino...

#10 | Posted by LampLighter

hell yes....if I'm playing a 50 dollar nassau....total of 150 if lose all 3

bets and all I've got is 50 bucks...

the sweat is hitting 500- 1000 balls everyday...

#12 | Posted by shrimptacodan at 2025-04-12 08:31 PM

@#12 ... hell yes... ...

In golfing, I don't see a level of physical exertion that would encourage a body to exude water to cool itself.

Just walking around.

And for some, not even the capability to walk around, so a golf cart.

So, yeah, golf may be a sport.

But I still do not see it as athletic.

#13 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-12 09:27 PM

But I still do not see it as athletic.

The game not so much, but the conditioning is. Talking Pro level golf here. Where blowing a shot can cost you a half million dollars.

Just "walking around" will get you kicked out of a pro tournament. So will using a golf cart. That's what ended Tiger Woods.... he can still make the shots, but he just can't walk the course anymore.

#14 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-04-12 09:38 PM

@#14 ... Talking Pro level golf here. Where blowing a shot can cost you a half million dollars. ...

In some respects I may agree.

Big money has so tarnished the concept of "athletic" that the definition seems more to mean, how much money can you earn.

imo, that's a sad outcome.

#15 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-12 10:05 PM

Big money has so tarnished the concept of "athletic" that the definition seems more to mean, how much money can you earn.

It is. I think that's actually how they score golf. Winning at golf also means using the latest and greatest equipment technology... clubs, balls all that stuff. Very expensive development. Much like another rich white man's sport, yacht racing.

People argue that auto racing is an athletic sport, even though the "athletes" are just driving around in circles for the afternoon.

#16 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-04-12 10:13 PM

@#16 ... People argue that auto racing is an athletic sport, even though the "athletes" are just driving around in circles for the afternoon.

Yeah, right.

Then, I popped that into a search engine, and came upo with this ..

Ask the expert: Are race car drivers athletes?
msutoday.msu.edu

Wow, just WTF friggin' wow.

#17 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-12 10:25 PM

Golf is a --- sport.

#18 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2025-04-12 10:48 PM

you better be an athelie when you driving way over 100 mph and you're a couple

of feet from another way over 100 mph speeding bullet after being in

that car for hours.

and the game of golf is impossible....you never win at golf...

like guy with usga said....regular golfers aren't good enough to get pissed

off about it....you're never gonna beat golf

#19 | Posted by shrimptacodan at 2025-04-12 11:53 PM

Just walking around.
#13 | Posted by LampLighter

you wouldn't say that if you had to walk on my poor legs.

lol

we ride but 18 is basically a warm up....

never play less than 27....sometimes 36 and 47 a few times

depends on how much money has changed hands.....

and then there is the "alcohol factor"

TRUE STORY and you'll agree when you hear it.

I was a walking scorer for the local pga open....guy with headphones and pocket computer

who calls for officials and helps caddies keep score walking by the people carrying the score signs...

during wednesday pro-am I'm with two young guys that traveled in mobile homes..

one of them said...." DAMNIT"....other said what's wrong....." there's daly parking

right next to us....we won't get any sleep all weekend..."

#28 | Posted by shrimptacodan at 2025-04-13 03:12 PM

Rory didn't make it easy on himself but he finally won it. Now he can relax and have fun. Not sure what happened to the Saudi guy.

He looks like Deepfriedtwinkie Clause coming to leave the good little children loaded AR-15's on Christmas ever.

Make sure to put out a case of Keystone Light and a jar of pickled eggs for him.

And an ashtray for Daly's cigarette butts :-)

#33 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2025-04-14 05:00 PM

what a great final round of golf

ups and downs..I still think Rory is gonna spent

lots of time with that wedge even though the hacker shots

didn't keep him from winning.

one last thing on "athletes and golfers....I was there in 2007 and the tv

does not show you just how tough it is to walk....one of the first nine is several

stories from tee to last 150 yards...downhill but then you have to walk back up

and that's what you do all day long and not "just walking"

add the pressure of every shot and you're an athlete.

NOW if you want to talk about the caddie.....that's a whole nuther thang...
