National Guard in LA Left Hanging with No Pay

In the Donald Trump administration's haste to federalize California National Guard troops to hit the streets of Los Angeles to protect ICE agents grabbing immigrants, the Pentagon has dropped the ball on providing the paperwork that would get them paid ...

FTA: The report adds that traditionally, when the National Guard is deployed to assist in distressed communities, they are welcomed with open arms. But soldiers are getting the cold shoulder this time.

"One midlevel officer said their unit would receive 'extremely generous' help when deployed to combat wildfires, including water, sports drinks and food, which played a significant role in morale and tightened the Guard-community relationship," the report notes, before adding one officer conceded, "This is a situation [where] we're against the community."

Says it all.

Someone should remind them they are required to refuse unlawful orders.

Someone should remind them they are required to refuse unlawful orders.

The lawsuit by Newsom will be critical in establishing the legality/illegality of Trump's actions. Hopefully the courts won't take forever in rendering a decision.

While I think it unreasonable for a low level grunt to refuse an unlawful order, the generals would certainly know better. That is where the first level of resistance should occur if the courts ruled they have been unlawfully deployed.

Trump not paying people is business as usual.

This is all on SECDEF Pete Hogsbreath, the worst living creature to ever lead the DOD. In the decision-making process, the SECDEF should have turned immediately to the senior JAG for the legality of the deployment and the Comptroller to ensure funds are made available for the mission to pay the US Marines. For funding and future awards, an attention-grabbing title is then bestowed to the mission, like in this case: OPERATION WASTE TIME.

Kegsbreath probably knocked over his 4th drink and used the paperwork to mop it up.

And... now they are patrolling the streets of LA; tired, hungry, thirsty, untrained for this job, and unpaid.

What could go wrong?

Prolly what Trump is hoping for.

The DUI hire dropped the ball?

Shocking.

He uses the "suckers and losers" for propaganda yet again.

Well, maybe I'll be wrong. It seems they're not treating their storm troopers well enough to keep them interested in being storm troopers.

Tracks with Trump's usual stinginess, but stupid in light of what they're trying to accomplish.

The fact that the Department of Defense (DOD) is being led by the least experienced, and least qualified SecDef is a big factor in this FUBAR situation.

But the US Senators who confirmed the immature racist to lead the DOD are ultimately to blame for its negligence in confirming a prima facie unsuitable nominee to lead the world's largest most complex, and best funded national security organization.

The sad truth that the confirmation was accomplished almost solely by Republican senators makes the Republican Party guilty by association. Sad to say.

When will the Republicans in Congress accept responsibility and serve with less blind partisanship and instead start exercising appropriate due diligence to the American Constitution and to their role in checking the excesses of the Executive Branch?

Only when it's politically expedient.
Looking to that gaggle of grifting, grasping goons for leadership is a waste of time.
