Southern border wall being painted black

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Tuesday that the entire border wall along the southern border with Mexico is going to be painted black to make it hotter and deter illegal immigration -- and she credited President Trump with the idea.

Why did not Sec Noem even push back against Pres Trump on this latest gism of his?

Possibly because that was Pres Trump's intent when he put together his Cabinet.

I'd suggest they consult with a thermal engineer before spending ("wasting") money on paint. Yes, a black paint will absorb more infrared ("heat") from the Sun, but that is only while the Sun is shining. After the Sun sets, a black-painted wall has higher emissivity and will radiant its heat more rapidly. Not only will that lower the walls temperature faster, this will occur during darkness which, I suspect, is probably a preferable time for climbing over the wall.
