Trump targets antifa Movement as 'terrorist organization'

Donald Trump announced that he is designating "Antifa" to be a terrorist organization. The catch being that there is no such organization. Antifa is instead a loosely defined ideological movement and the term can be applied to anyone who opposes fascism in any of its forms.

Antifa is a left-wing, anti-fascist and anti-racist political movement.

When Stephen Miller said the the government will destroy left-wing groups, this is what he means. They are attempting to criminalize anyone who disagrees with the administration about anything. You have a problem with the US government carrying out extrajudicial murders of people who may or may not be drug smugglers? Congratulations, you're an antifa terrorist. You oppose Trump accepting crypto investments from foreign governments in exchange for lifting trade restrictions? You're Antifa too. Want to speak out against revoking the visas of immigrants and visitors for exercising their freedom of speech? You are most definitely Antifa.

The FBI will immediately put the leader of Antifa on its Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List, like Usama Bin Laden or Hannibal Lecter: i.ytimg.com

and the term can be applied to anyone who opposes fascism in any of its forms.

Which is likely the point.

This will raise an uncomfortable position, though, when they start going after their critics as "antifa," essentially admitting they're fascists.

Anyone in public demonstrating against Trump can now be called "Antifa", and therefore terrorists no matter how peaceful they are and no matter how solid they are as American citizens.

He can't. You do understand The game changes once designated right?

Targeting a domestic group is completely different than designation.

It's like when Biden administration targeted white supremacists in the military.

Who were in turn protected by other white supremacists in the military.

Antifa is a decentralized political movement, not an organization. It's an idea.

Anti-fascist.

The people who want to shut Antifa down are white supremacists and fascists. If you're not anti fascist, you're a member of the team.

There is no doubt that Antifa is a terrorist organization. In the US and elsewhere. I remember in the early 2000s, reading an article in the Economist comparing Al Qaeda with early century anarchist movements in the US and Europe. I'll try and dig it up.

Antifa is not Brigate Rosse or Rote Armee Fraktion. It's an ideology, not an organization.

"The people who want to shut Antifa down are white supremacists and fascists."

Or they just don't want to see their neighborhoods burned, cars set on fire, and ATMs destroyed.

That's pretty much everyone.

They characterize themselves as anti-fascist, but only so far as they are anarchists whose beliefs are just as violent and suppressive as the fascists they purport to align against. They are not the good guys, unless you also share the entirety of their beliefs. Few do.

Antifa is a loosely organized movement.
There is no hierarchy.
No marching orders.
Antifa as proclaimed by the reichwing is largely a product of fearful, conspiratorially inclined imaginations.
This is like during the Vietnam War, looking for all that North Vietnamese money funding the anti war effort.
There was no "there" there.
More boolshee from folks who would rather deal with the nonexistent than actually contend with reality.

There are certainly people who dress in black bloc and just want to burn the world down, and will use any protest as an opportunity. Others live by a code, and don't want to simply create chaos, though their methods may run afoul of the law, which can also be used against them to counteract what they are trying to accomplish
