Dem Who Wins in Red US Has Advice for His Party

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, the unwavering Democrat who has repeatedly won in Trump country, says some in his party need to talk more like "normal human beings." Too often, he said, he hears "advocacy speak" from Democrats, saying things like "substance-use disorder" instead of addiction, "food insecurity" instead of hunger and "justice-involved population" instead of inmates.

Beshear's everyman appeal has helped him win a term as Kentucky's attorney general and two as its governor, all in a state President Trump won by 30 percentage points in 2024. It has also earned him credibility among national Democrats as he contemplates a 2028 presidential bid.

During a fireside interview at the governor's mansion, Beshear presented himself as a "common-sense, common-ground" Democrat. He steadfastly avoided labels like liberal or moderate, although his record is arguably more liberal than his moderate reputation.

It's important to speak the same language as your audience, even if you actually talking down to their level.

Just don't act like it.

Hi Corky:

In similar vein, the late, great Nelson Mandela knew to conduct all of the negotiations with the ruling National Party in their language: Afrikaans.

Center in the photo below is Dr. Neil Barnard, the late intelligence chief (BOSS) who from behind-the-scenes adroitly managed the transition to post-apartheid Suid-Afrika.

Dr. Barnard passed earlier this year, mercifully just before the inauguration of uber-racist Dummkopf Trumpf.

- in their language: Afrikaans.

I might be mistaken, but most Red Staters speak that same language, just with a twang.

And they also think they are being Replaced by nonwhites.

So, lots in common. Except for the diamond mines part; in the South it's mostly pigsties and trailer parks. And stock car racing.

And Dummkopf Trumpf disinvited South Africa from the imminent G-20 Summit.

The Dotard-in-Chief will have a few more opportunities to embarrass us while disgracing himself in front of world leaders.

There is also going to be some FIFA event in the US which Canada PM Mark Carney and Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum may attend.

Andy is pretty popular here in Kentucky. I did a bit of work with his father, Steve, who was governor back in the 90s. Good people.

Keep pushing crazy, I'm sure it will work out swimmingly

The fact that the left here considers not using newspeak as talking down says everything about why the left is so far out of touch with the majority right now. Twisting the language to not state blatant facts isn't some elevated way of speaking, it's just disingenuous and it comes across as that to most people. So go on considering talking like an elitist snob as somehow sounding more intelligent, it's working out great for you.

the left is so far out of touch with the majority right now

did the majority want to massively raise taxes on the working class and give huge tax cuts to the rich?

is that a bigger issue than what to call trans people?
