Man Served 33 Drinks on Cruise Ship Then Surprisingly Dies

In Dec 2024, Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas passenger Michael Virgil (35) was served with 33 alcoholic drinks before flying into a drunken rampage, threatening passengers and physically assaulting crew members, then dying shortly after security personnel finally restrained him, according to a new lawsuit filed by the runamok's family.

Michael Virgil was traveling with his fiance Connie Aguilar and their seven-year-old autistic son from Los Angeles to Mexico on 13 Dec 2024.

The lawsuit says that trouble began moments after the family boarded the cruise and learned their room was not ready.
It also claimed that the cruise line failed to intervene to protect' Michael's life, stating: At all relevant times hereto, Royal Caribbean had the right to refuse the continued service of alcohol to any patron visibly intoxicated.'

The filed lawsuit says that, when security moved in, crew members tackled him and stood on [him] with their full body weight,' making it difficult for Michael to move.

The lawsuit also alleged that the ship's captain ordered that he be injected with the sedative Haloperidol, and that multiple cans' of pepper spray were used.

Haloperidol is an anti-psychotic medicine which can help with feelings of anxiety and other symptoms of mental health conditions. Michael died within hours of being restrained, according to the filing.

Lawyers said that despite having the right to refuse service to visibly intoxicated passengers, cruise ship staff did not.

I'm sure that would have calmed him down.

This deceased dipsomaniac, traveling with an autistic child, must have bought the Unlimited Drink package: www.royalcaribbean.com

One wonders what kind of unhappy life Michael Virgil was leading to drive him to drink so much, so hard, and so quickly.

drink so much, so hard, and so quickly.

Those unlimited drink packages make some people pretty stupid. They want to "get their money's worth" so they are usually hammered by 0900 every day.

This seems to be different. 33 drinks in a couple of hours? While they were probably still at the dock?

Did he ask for each and every one of those drinks to be served to him?

The timeline is unclear and I wasn't able to find the original legal documents. On the cruises I've been on, the bars are already fill after the PAX have checked into their rooms.

These cruise ships have a few-hour turnaround to disembark out-going PAX, then load in-coming PAX. If Michael Virgil's cabin wasn't ready, that means the previous occupant either made a huge mess or there was a mechanical issue with the cabin (e.g. leak, broken lock) that took longer than three hours to clean or repair.

One blogger wrote: "The ship empties out at about 0900 HRS and starts boarding just before noon; cabins weren't open till 1300 or 1330 HRS."

So, I imagine Michael Virgil began his death binge around 1300 or 1330 HRS after he learned his cabin wasn't ready.

Did he ask for each and every one of those drinks to be served to him?

And did he actually drink them all?

@#7 ... And did he actually drink them all? ...

Yeah, that may also be significant.

And did he actually drink them all?

That was my question, too.

It sounds too impossible to be true.

Unless someone was waiting in his room with a funnel.

It sounds too impossible to be true.

It's like a drink every 10 minutes or so. He looks like he was a big boy, but still. Apparently his BAC was 0.184.

Pete "Hic!" Hegseth might be able to throw some light on the matter of alcohol intake over time.

But was the fan on when he died?!? (Some Koreans used to believe that sleeping with the fan on would kill you. They'd point to stories where somebody with 6 empty bottles of soju alcohol by their bed passed away with the fan on, as evidence that the fan will somehow make you die if you leave it on whilst asleep) en.wikipedia.org
