How DEI created a military recruitment crisis

In his recent viral essay, "The Lost Generation," published in Compact, Jacob Savage describes how U.S. media and academia in the 2010s closed their doors to millennial white men. The self-righteous, racist ideology of diversity, equity and inclusion wasn't a problem only within those rarified fields. It also infected the U.S. armed forces. Under President Biden, senior officers worked to make our military less white, precipitating a recruitment crisis.

During the first Trump administration, lethality was the military's overriding focus. That changed in 2021. Mr. Biden issued an executive order embedding "diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility" across "all parts of the Federal workforce." Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin took the unprecedented step of ordering a "stand-down" to combat "extremism" in the armed forces. By the time an independent report commissioned by the Pentagon found these concerns to be baseless, they had already formed the ideological permission structure for a DEI crusade.

The biggest winner of DEI was White Liberal Women, this is why their mental breakdowns are on full display.
Older Male Boomer managers/execs were fine with screwing over younger white men, to get sexual access to the women.

Boomers are clearly the cause of America's decline.

Minority generations ------ over by white men resulting in few if any members of their families with college educations and little to no generational wealth often in underfunded schools suddenly get a helping hand to compete with white people's already existing headstart and often legacy admissions causes racist Conservatives to have a meltdown.

Charlie Kirk himself made up a story about not getting into West Point because of a minority woman taking his spot.

99% of the time, it's some white dude imagining they didn't get a job or get into their college of choice because of DEI.

White Dude Jeff Bellringer: "Sure, I got two DUIs, an 8th grade education, no experience, and have to wear an ankle monitor for things I won't discuss, but they hired that black woman with a masters degree, no criminal history, and 10 years of experience due to DEI."

(Irony, DEI was HELPING men compete with women at colleges were trying to balance gender of incoming classes because many more women were applying. Not anymore.)

This is such BS.
I was in grad school in the 2010s and those doors were not closed.

Right wing voices and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself) have been pitching "men not going to college" for a generation.
Mike Rowe's Dirty Jobs for example.
The entire narrative arc of Rush Limbaugh's radio show.
Every time we glorify and glamorize the police and the military, both manly male dominated fields.

Going to college went from being something people aspire to achieve, to something most other (especially right-wing) people look down upon. It became an Us vs Them.

Kinda like being a billionaire.

Because what's become pretty evident is it's the right-wing billionaires and the right-wing politicians the back, who say college is the enemy.

University entrances have always been a zero sum game.

Job opportunities are a zero sum game.

If no one was torn down then what's the point of it?

Logically if the focus on selecting immutable traits thise not selected for immutable traits were torn down, or denied jobs, university entrance.

You anecdotal evidence is countered by admission records across the country.
Example California stopped using SAT for entrance qualifications and changed to an immutable traits requirements. Those that were not selected were torn down/ denied an education.

If you can think of a better way to make up for generations of racism keeping minorities out of college and lost generational wealth, you be sure to let us know.

No college degrees in the family? Much less likely to go to college.

Poor family? Much less likely to go to college.

Jeff thinking getting rid of DEI means a level playing field? Priceless stupidity.

Also, how does DEI tear people down? It literally just recognizes historical hurdles in college admissions.

Have you ever heard of scholarships? They are available in hardship cases.

But that's not what DEI is about and never has been. It's toxic as hell. It completely destroys any sense of meritocracy. In K-12 it's used to make students of different races, who would otherwise get along just fine, hate each other.

And never mind the fact that lowering standards in college admissions for certain races sets them up to fail. Those standards exist for a reason. The academic rigors at a University like Northwestern are considerably more difficult than those at Fresno State. Don't put an underprivileged student at a university like Northwestern when they are underprepared for the curriculum. Especially when a MAC school can still give them the tools they need to be successful at the next level.

From what I've seen, DEI or diversity training or whatever-you-want to call it consistently falls into one of three categories. One of them is the toxic crap that Bellringer is referring to, which gives the right a wedge issue because many on the left refuse to call it out for some reason. Another one is well-intentioned but comes across as extremely patronizing and places too much emphasis on "special needs". And the third one is actually what it should be, promoting the values it claims to without the hypocrisy or tone deafness.

Unfortunately, I don't believe anyone here wants to have an honest or good faith discussion about it. So, carry on.
