NEW: The FBI visited the home of Milwaukee County's elections director in an attempt to question her over absentee ballots from the 2020 presidential election. The visit marks the latest sign that the Trump administration is probing the 2020 election results in Wisconsin.

This is something I've been screaming ever since I combed through The Heritage Foundation's website on vote fraud, and realized several things:

1. The plurality of fraud isn't by the voter; it's by canvassers, cullers, and counters ... none of which would be affected by voter ID.

2. When it is a voter, it's almost always ONE extra vote. NEVER any fraud at scale.

3. States average about one conviction per state, per year.

4. Claims of in-person fraud are wildly overstated, and extremely, EXTREMELY rare.

5. Attempting vote fraud is insanely high risk for low reward: obviously, if both sides do it at the same rate, it benefits neither party. What folks don't realize is even if one party did it at a 50% greater rate than the other, it would take 5 incidents of fraud to net ONE vote.

For many I think the concept of voter ID is mentally linked to citizen only voting(rightfully or wrongly so). I don't think it's out of bounds to have the position that only US Citizens should be voting in our elections. If I stay at my friends house, I don't get a vote on where they'll go for their family vacation.

It's technically a States Rights decision for State elections under the Constitution. I think if this ever happens, it's been in very limited circumstances.

At the Federal level, only US citizens can vote in Federal elections.

Just about 100% of this "controversy" is right wing manufactured outrage. Voter ID has widely been used by Republicans to disenfranchise likely Democrat voters.

This is still not even solved with voter ID since our drivers license or state ID do not designate US Citizenship on them. Also voter eligibility is already verified at the registration level, not at the voting location. I already show my drivers license and sign beside my name on their list when I receive my ballot at the voting location. Then I go vote, slip my ballot in a blank cover, and then in a wooden box with a cutout in it. Having to bring my birth certificate, marriage license, in some cases divorce decree, another marriage license, etc to the voting location is asinine.

Expand to say some groups of legal residents

They pay taxes they are affected by American policies?

Wouldn't investment in and subject to the impact of governing play some role in consideration of representation?

Yes, Trump is a demented Fascist, living in a deluded dream where he is dear leader and no one but he has say over anything, and he only owns everything.
And yes, any MAGA who voted for Trump twice was in on the scheme to kill our democracy. Hard to believe they will even need an insurrectionist mob come 2028, since they have the military cowed.

#7 Snoofy, since I don't vote for republicans and I've told you that I thought you might figure out that isn't how I feel on this. You're right, the id's that are being proposed don't work. You'll note that I said in vague theory it's not out of bounds to consider it, obviously it would be a specific ID that would indicate citizenship.

#8 No, they live here and the policies my impact them, but they are not as fully invested. The moment the consequences of choices aren't good, they can just pick up and leave. Citizens cannot. They are less vested in good long term solutions than a citizen SHOULD be.

I think you'd find an extremely small minority of people who disagree with that.

I also think you'll find a large proportion (if not large majority) of people disagree that that is a problem big enough to warrant roadblocks being put in place for voting.

It's a solution in search of a problem being intentionally pushed by people who want voting to be harder to perceived opponents.

In other words, it's disingenuous nonsense.
