... World leaders promised in 2015 to try to limit the long-term temperature rise to 1.5C, which is seen as crucial to help avoid the most damaging impacts.

This first year-long breach doesn't break that landmark Paris agreement, but it does bring the world closer to doing so in the long-term.

Urgent action to cut carbon emissions can still slow warming, scientists say.

"This far exceeds anything that is acceptable," Prof Sir Bob Watson, a former chair of the UN's climate body, told the BBC Radio 4's Today Programme.

"Look what's happened this year with only 1.5C - we've seen floods, we've seen droughts, we've seen heatwaves and wildfires all over the world."

The period from February 2023 to January 2024 reached 1.52C of warming, according to the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service. The following graph shows how that compares with previous years. ...

Record rains in CA and the South, massive blizzards in the north and east, blistering heat waves in the summer.

Not at all a coincidence.

Would you just look at that US oil production under Biden regime.

And if production wasn't high, you CON's would be bitching even more about how Biden is killing the industry. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't

It's actually one thing I agree with him on. The problem is he hoodwinked the green-wing of the Democrats in an attempt to save his own ass.

I don't think many were hoodwinked. Anyone with a brain understands that with the high amount of resistance to solutions, a realistic reduction in greenhouse gases isn't going to happen over night. I think Biden has done as much as he can within the current political climate.

You can relax. Obama's house won't be under threat for a couple of hundred years.

Ocean system that moves heat gets closer to collapse, which could cause weather chaos, study says
apnews.com

... An abrupt shutdown of Atlantic Ocean currents that could put large parts of Europe in a deep freeze is looking a bit more likely and closer than before as a new complex computer simulation finds a "cliff-like" tipping point looming in the future.

A long-worried nightmare scenario, triggered by Greenland's ice sheet melting from global warming, still is at least decades away if not longer, but maybe not the centuries that it once seemed, a new study in Friday's Science Advances finds. The study, the first to use complex simulations and include multiple factors, uses a key measurement to track the strength of vital overall ocean circulation, which is slowing.

A collapse of the current -- called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation or AMOC -- would change weather worldwide because it means a shutdown of one of key the climate and ocean forces of the planet. It would plunge northwestern European temperatures by 9 to 27 degrees (5 to 15 degrees Celsius) over the decades, extend Arctic ice much farther south, turn up the heat even more in the Southern Hemisphere, change global rainfall patterns and disrupt the Amazon, the study said. Other scientists said it would be a catastrophe that could cause worldwide food and water shortages.

"We are moving closer (to the collapse), but we we're not sure how much closer," said study lead author Rene van Westen, a climate scientist and oceanographer at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. "We are heading towards a tipping point." ...

"Eighty international scientific societies have endorsed the concept of a primarily human-caused climate crisis that is already starting to threaten the health and well-being of millions, and soon to be billions, of people in the next few decades. The total number of scientific organizations that dispute this is zero. If you were watching a basketball game where the score was 80 to 0, with one minute left in the fourth quarter, and you decided to bet your entire nest egg on that losing team, no one would argue that you were not severely delusional. ... Inability to discern reality is the hallmark of schizophrenia."

Trump deliberately slowed progress. Trump added significantly to the "high amount of resistance to solutions". Trump is part of the problem.

Sorry Snoofy, I guess you misunderstood my comment. It's solely to point out that if your democrat overlords actually thought global warming / climate change / whatever new phrase you guys will eventually have to use were true ... They wouldn't own beach front property, nor would insurance companies insure their homes.

Which just goes to show, climate change true believers are full of ---- and living in la la land.

-Bw Ive been saying that for years too. Ive had discussions with insurers >20 yrs ago. Property insurers would have no underwriting or reinsurance in vulnerable areas. But Obama and richest libs buys a mansion on an island and beachfront.. It is all BS for the suckling sheep.

Really?

That is what your current alias is hanging it's hat on?

That people who own beach front property (a phrase I note you do not describe in detail, but that's a later comment) still own that beach front property?

Why does your current alias think they may own it?

Possibly to sell it to someone else in the future for a profit?

All that aside...

Let's talk specifics...

What, exactly is the beach front property that is owned and how is it threatened?

Yeah, let's start there. Details, please.

Yer up.

Lemme ask of ye a question...

Has your alias done a survey of the properties affected by climate change and ascertained whether or not those buying those properties have a rational reason to buy those properties?

Climate Change Could Leave Obama's Possible New Mansion Underwater, According To Researchers Funded By Obama Admin

PETER HASSON
SENIOR REPORTER
August 26, 2019

Former President Barack Obama's possible new mansion on Martha's Vineyard could be totally underwater by the year 2100, according to a climate change model relying on government data.

The Obamas are reportedly in the process of buying the island property, which was originally listed at listed at $14,850,000, from Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck. Though the deal has yet to be finalized, both TMZ and the Boston Herald have reported that the Obamas are in escrow. ...

My first question...

Is this fmr Pres Obama betting against climate change, or is this fmr Pres Obama looking to use Capitalism to get more in return on an investment?

In other words, and quite bluntly, is fmr Pres Obama looking to exploit the GOP's intentional ignorance of climate change to make money off of them in the future?
