Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Saudi Arabia acknowledged that it had helped the newly forged regional military coalition " Israel, the United States, Jordan, the United Kingdom, and France " repel an Iranian attack against the Jewish state early Sunday morning. That source also charged that Iran had instigated the Gaza war, through its proxy group Hamas, to thwart US efforts for a Saudi normalization deal.

"In the weeks before Hamas's October 7 invasion, the United States had been involved in intense diplomatic activity to promote a three-way deal that would have included a strategic pact between Riyadh and Washington against Iran, a normalization deal with Saudi Arabia and Israel, and a renewed pathway to Palestinian statehood.

Hamas's October 7 attack against Israel scuttled those efforts but did not hinder the ability of Western powers, with armies stationed in the region to work together with Arab partners, including Saudi Arabia, to build a military alliance against Iran.

The joint defensive military maneuvers marked the first time that the five armies [Israel, the United States, Jordan, the United Kingdom, and France, with help from Saudi Arabia, had worked together as a nascent coalition to repel an Iranian attack. "

Also rumored to have joined in was Iraq and the UAE. Womp, womp Iran.

Glad some of the folks over there are on to the conniving of the Iranians and Palestinians. Too bad many of our own people, particularly in the Democratic party, are gullible fools.

Here's a recent one...

... @#45 ... Iran doesn't want an all out war with Israel and or the West.. ...

My view...

Iran initiated the Oct7 strike against Israel because it saw Israel and Saudi Arabia positively engaging in negotiations for a peace treaty, brokered by the US (at the time, the Biden Administration).

Iran was against that treaty, so they triggered Hamas to derail it.

Now, Iran seems to realize that following through on what it dd may not be A Good Thing for them.

Who knows what may happen next? This is the volatile Middle East. ...

"It's difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it." - Upton Sinclair

Changing that quote to suit the case at hand:
"It's difficult to get people to stop blaming the Jews when they very much want to see them all exterminated and Israel wiped from the face of the Earth."

Doesn't mean its right, consider the source has a vested interest in Israeli Saudi relations.

This really isn't very worthy of news.

OneIronTurd thinks it's no biggie that multiple Arab nations, inlcuding ones that haven't even normalized relations with Israel, helped defend Israel from an attack by a Muslim nation.

It's coming out that Saudi Arabia ... and the United Arab Emirates ... , in addition to Jordan , participated in the defense against the hundreds of missiles launched by the Islamic Republic in Iran on Saturday night. October 7th may have pushed back normalization, but the Islamic Republic in Iran's unquenchable thirst for chaos may just have put it back on course." Hen Mazzig (@HenMazzig) April 15, 2024

@#5 ... Doesn't mean its right, ...

I never said it was The Reason.

I just offered my view of why Iran may have instigated the attack upon Israel.

And now, I see someone who agrees with my view.

... consider the source has a vested interest in Israeli Saudi relations. ...

This really isn't very worthy of news. ...

Why might this not be newsworthy?

That there may be some truth behind it?

It's not a surprise that Saudi and Iran hate each other.

It is a surprise, to me at least, that Saudi Arabia stepped up, along with Jordan, UAE, and possibly Iraq, to defend Israel. And they did so at a time when even Israel's closest allies are having internal disagreements on protecting Israel after swallowing the Iran/Palestinian lies hook, line and sinker.

I do not disagree.

And all the more reason for apparently sabotaging Saudi Arabia's and Israel's efforts towards peace.

A question for y'all, though...

Israel and Egypt have signed a peace agreement back in the late 1970's.

What is the religion of Egypt?

thx.

OK, that may explain why Iran was so opposed to the Saudi Arania - Israel peace negotiations.

A long time ago, I post an article about the conflicts in the Middle East being caused by different religious sects.

Found this...

Islam's Sunni-Shia Divide, Explained (2022)
www.history.com

... The split between the two main sects within Islam goes back some 1,400 years.

Though the two main sects within Islam, Sunni and Shia, agree on most of the fundamental beliefs and practices of Islam, a bitter split between the two goes back some 14 centuries. The divide originated with a dispute over who should succeed the Prophet Muhammad as leader of the Islamic faith he introduced.

Today, about 85 percent of the approximately 1.6 billion Muslims around the world are Sunni, while 15 percent are Shia, according to an estimate by the Council on Foreign Relations. While Shia represent the majority of the population in Iran, Iraq, Bahrain and Azerbaijan and a plurality in Lebanon, Sunnis are the majority in more than 40 other countries, from Morocco to Indonesia.

Despite their differences, Sunni and Shia have lived alongside each other in relative peace for most of history. But starting in the late 20th century, the schism deepened, exploding into violence in many parts of the Middle East as extreme brands of Sunni and Shia Islam battle for both religious and political supremacy. ...
