Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, May 05, 2024

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is negotiating a new contract with the public schools system and is understood to be calling for an extra $50 billion to pay for wage hikes as well as other demands such as fully paid abortions for its members, new migrant services and facilities and a host of LGBT-related requirements and training in schools. To put the figure into context, the total base tax receipts for the state of Illinois last year were $50.7 billion. The incredible demands are being made despite its members delivering underwhelming results for its students, with only 21 percent of the city's eighth graders being proficient readers, according to the last Nation's Report Card, which provides national results about students' performance.

What will you do then?

The time to protest is before they actually get their demand, that's what winners do.

Losers wait until the city/state caves then complains.

Which one are you?

I don't really GAF. Unions making ridiculous demands at the start of bargaining is nothing new.

It's cute how the article FAILS to mention this is $50 billion over 4 years, not $50 billion in one year.

The state spends about $10.5 billion per year currently and the current budget request is for 11$ billion.

So once a few demands are cut, like 9% yearly raises down to 4%, this really isn't a huge huge increase.
