It's taken more than two years and five attempts, but on May 28 Texas health and wildlife officials killed every remaining captive whitetail deer on Robert Williams' high-fence ranch in Kaufman County'

This is just mind blowing. I mean thankfully Texas actually got it right but it seems like too little too late. Breeder's herd was 90% infected and they were releasing them at hunt sites. Then the MAGA comes out with "he still maintains that CWD is a 'political disease'".

It isn't a political disease. Prions don't care about your politics. It gets in the ground and then they all start to get it. That's why Deer operations are so bad and have such high positivity. They do the same thing to cattle. Old coot probably has late stage Mad Cow himself unless he doesn't eat the deer.

As for Oklahoma, I am sure a few of you will have things to say about possibly the most backward state in the Union...

Yeah Pete, I was there for a bit. Altus OK; to be exact, Altus AFB. Pretty grim.

My 'whole-life-in-Okie' neighbor took me into his confidence one day and cracked the code for me...(read this in a thick, 'ain't never been out of Oklahoma except to go to Texas' accent)..."Now, y'see, Sgt Smith, truth about folks here, you know, if they live w'thin 8 maybe 10 miles, they'll be some good old boys. Any futhuh out than that, ain't nuthin but abuncha ignunt old Hillbillies".

I never saw anything that contradicted that.

CWD political, my ass. It's been in up here since Clinton was president. While there's no hard link between CWD in deer and CJD/Madcow in people, it's some spooky ----. Maybe I'm just missing something, but isn't high-fence basically "fish in a barrel"? Has to be A+ primo conditions for spreading prion diseases.
