Florida ranks fifth in the country for education based on an annual report released Monday, June 10 by The Annie E. Casey Foundation. The annual KIDS COUNT Data Book measures child welfare in each state in the country. According to its latest analysis, Florida ranks number five when it comes to education. Foundation Director Lisa Hamilton said that's because Florida kids outperform the other states when it comes to math and reading proficiency, and the number of students graduating on time. "So while there might be lots of conversation in [Florida] about what the curriculum is or what's actually happening in the classroom, what it suggests is that Florida is doing a good job of keeping its eye on the ball of making sure that its children hit these particular milestones," Hamilton said.

Interesting report.

Florida? #30.

...

Of course, this report from 2024 is probably too early to show the real effects of Gov DeSantis' dumbing down of Florida's education.

"Florida kids outperform the other states when it comes to math and reading proficiency, and the number of students graduating on time. "

Texas pulled the old two step back in the early days of "no child left behind" where they would identify the children that would not pass the standardized tests, hold them back an extra year for the grade before the test and then magically after that second year advance them above the testing year citing "tremendous progress" in that extra year. It took a whistleblower to spill the beans on that scheme.

Only testing in certain grades make this type of scheme effective. What you find is a lot of schools "teaching to the test" where other subjects are ignored in favor of focusing on the topics that are covered by the test. It results in students that are lacking in overall education.

"In Florida, 35% of all students are chronically absent. So even worse than the national average," said Hamilton.

These standardized tests are destroying children.

NAEP 2022 scores:

Florida 4th Graders:
2nd in reading
4th in Math

Good job!

But wait...

Florida 8th Graders:
18th in Reading
31st in Math

What the hell is going on between 4th grade and 8th grade?

I wonder why Florida did away with state testing recently? Hmm...could it be to cover up the 8th grader scores? Nah.

Interesting observation.

Gov DeSantis seems to have a predisposition towards suppressing data that does not show Florida in a good light.

Need a few more years for DeSantis and republican policies to turn public education in Florida into complete shht.

I see Mississippi in Florida's future.

Gracie is too stupid to understand.

But, no one ever called her smart.
