A new study suggests that susceptibility to a variety of respiratory infections may be part of what protected children from severe COVID-19. In the study, researchers found that the presence and prevalence of respiratory viruses and bacteria in children's noses was associated with stronger nasal immune responses, which, they say, could be part of why kids were less likely to get severe COVID-19 during the pandemic.

"The prior studies showed that there was something different about kids in terms of having better defenses at the barrier where the virus tries to penetrate the body," says Ellen Foxman, associate professor of laboratory medicine and immunobiology at Yale School of Medicine and senior author of the study. 'But the unanswered question was, why do kids have better defenses?"

Not sure if I cought it ever. I had some nasty colds, including one at the beginning of this year that lingered into sinus infections. I'm curious about long COVID, so maybe I could get an antibody test?

I caught exactly one illness in three years. It was the flu and I caught it from my little devil nephew. >:)

Had the normal childhood sick periods. After I joined the Marines, I only had the occasional cold. I went on the USS Midway 3 times for 6 month stretches. Each time I got at least ten shots. Probably a frankenshot mixed in. Never had the flu as an adult. No medications, good blood pressure and blood work. LAF.

I had COVID once. It was the only illness I've really had in the last 10 years. And it really only felt like allergies. I'm still glad I got the shots.
