The plot thickens. It appears Tolkien's work was not one of fantasy after all and Hobbits were real...

"Howling grandmother" was spotted and recorded by several ships, including pirates who warned about this creatures screaming in the night.
We also have trail cam footage Yellowstone 2014 of four giant hominids apparently stalking bison in the snow.
Some species apparently survive.

I wonder, especially since they are finding these bones on an island, if this phenomenon is related to a similar case of 'shrinking mammoths' found in the fossil record. In the case of the mammoths, they were found to have shrunk in size fairly rapidly (considering evolution) due to a limited amount of food supply (I believe also on a cut off island or something). Which doesn't suggest a very happy ending to 'the hobbits' of Flores Island if true.
They should test the bone marrow of that little bone they found for vitamin and other deficiencies...

This is a great story about a branch of humanoids that didn't make it.
Not all hominids were successful. Some may have even been driven to extinction by ---- sapiens.
And the jury is still out on whether ---- sapiens will survive itself.

There's probably another island somewhere off to the west of the Hobbit island with a bunch of retired Elves living on it. Somebody should check into that.
