Reporting a possible bird strike and it looks like the landing gear was not down when it landed.

There was also one in Halifax, Canada and one in Oslo, Norway.

@#2 ... Reporting a possible bird strike and it looks like the landing gear was not down when it landed. ...

A bird strike of one engine, imo, would not cause what I saw. From what I've read, planes can fly on only one engine.

OK, what did I see in the video ...

There was no landing gear deployed. The flaps did not seem to be in a position to slow the plane down.

That indicates to me a significant hydraulic failure, one which a bird strike of one engine is not likely to cause.

Now, if there were also a bird strike of a second engine, well, then that could explain the hydraulic failure, from what I have heard.

But then, there is that concrete wall at the end of the runway that the jet crashed into and had issues with, killing 179 passengers.

Again, from what I have heard, the FAA recommends against such barriers to prevent overruns of runways, likely for this exact reason.

imo, as always.

They have both of the flight recorders so they will sort it out before long. It will likely take a week to find out what happened and a year or two to assign blame.

The cockpit voice recorder seems to be intact, but the telemetry recorder has damage, from what I have heard.

The NSTB is examining the latter, but it usually takes a whie (months?) to the results of those examinations to come to the fore.

So, "before long" may be a longer time period than you hope.

That's entirely possible. Undoubtedly there will be more video of the incident after they scour the local security feeds. The CVR info usually comes out fairly quickly.
