The US and Mexico agreed to conduct coordinated patrols on their respective side of the border, increase information sharing, and establish methods for immediate communications. The agreement emphasizes that each country will respect the sovereignty of the other. Globally, Mexico is one of six countries with the highest level of firearm mortality, yet they only have one gun store in the entire country. The people of Mexico would love to see a stop to the flow of illegal weapons into their country from the US which they call the "Iron River." American gun-runners and straw purchasers are the main culprits. The Mexican people would also like to see a drop in the demand for illegal drugs from Americans which fuels the drug trade and powerful crime syndicates.
