In Connecticut, demand for pickleball courts has spurred several small businesses that keep the rally going all year round with indoor courts. America's fastest growing sport, Pickleball, a racquet sport played on courts smaller than tennis with paddles and hollow plastic balls with holes, is a popular outdoor sport in Connecticut parks. It's grown so popular that the demand for indoor courts open year-round has generated a new pickleball economy.

... JoAnn Scillia said she was a casual pickleball player for a few years before jumping into the court business. When an old Big Lots storefront on the busy Boston Post Road in Orange became available, she said the opportunity was too good to pass up.

"Pickle SPOT was sort of a surprise," Scillia said. "Pickleball was on the rise, and it was such a popular sport, and this particular space became available. It just seemed like a great idea to put Pickle SPOT in a prime location where there's access to people. It just seemed like the right place at the right time." ...
