In Connecticut, demand for pickleball courts has spurred several small businesses that keep the rally going all year round with indoor courts. America's fastest growing sport, Pickleball, a racquet sport played on courts smaller than tennis with paddles and hollow plastic balls with holes, is a popular outdoor sport in Connecticut parks. ... JoAnn Scillia said she was a casual pickleball player for a few years before jumping into the court business. When an old Big Lots storefront on the busy Boston Post Road in Orange became available, she said the opportunity was too good to pass up.

"Pickle SPOT was sort of a surprise," Scillia said. "Pickleball was on the rise, and it was such a popular sport, and this particular space became available. Yawn ... .. I'm 56 and was playing pickleball 40 years ago in highschool. It was an elective PE class. We made our own paddles in woodshop. This is not a new sport.

Outdoor pickleball sucks if your a serious player as any wind blows the ball all over.

You can fit four pickleball courts in the space of one tennis court. And so you don't have to run around as much as tennis. It's a good way to stay active for active older people.

And practically nobody was using the tennis courts at the average 55+ property anyway. Now they have a new industry. It's how innovation is supposed to work. It's been the fastest growing sport for some time now.
