President Donald Trump said Iran is ready to make a deal to end the war but the US wants better terms, signaling no letup in a conflict that's brought shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz to a near standstill and upended energy markets.

... Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Islamic Republic hasn't asked for talks or a ceasefire.

"We don't see any reason why we should talk with Americans, because we were talking with them when they decided to attack us, and that was for the second time," he said in an interview aired Sunday on [CBS News].

He added that Iran will continue to defend itself until Trump accepts that he's waging an "illegal war" with no chance of victory.

"Iran wants to make a deal, and I don't want to make it because the terms aren't good enough yet," Trump told NBC on Saturday, saying that a "very solid" agreement would have to include a commitment by Tehran to abandon nuclear ambitions.

Looks to me like Pres Trump is making up stuff, desperately trying to find an off-ramp.

Just an opinion of mine at this point.

But I do have to ask, did Pres trump have any understanding of the tangled web he entered when he initiated his unprovoked war against Iran?

Stated differently, Iran is not Venezuela.

"Trump Says Iran Ready to End War"

Well, if the man with 34 felony fraud convictions said so, it must be true.

Iran says Trump is lying.

Sad when the Ayatollahyaso is more believable than the US President.

did Pres trump have any understanding of the tangled web he entered

As much of an understanding he has about anything else. He is neither smart, nor informed.

@#5 ... He is neither smart, nor informed. ...

I disagree ...

Pres Trump seems to be quite well informed from the reporting I have seen.

The questions I ask are ...

Whether or not he listens to those who inform him? Or does he just deny the information they provide because it does not substantiate his view?

Or does he just deny the information they provide because it does not substantiate his view?

He just hires people who won't give him that information. He fires anyone that tells him things he doesn't want to hear.

@#7 ... He fires anyone that tells him things he doesn't want to hear. ...

Yeah, I've seen that aspect.

But, then there is also this reporting ...

Trump's Humiliating War Miscalculation Exposed
www.yahoo.com

... President Donald Trump, convinced that Iran would quickly bend to any U.S. pressure, repeatedly ignored his general's warnings about Iran crippling a crucial oil shipping lane.

Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, repeatedly warned Trump that Iran would likely disrupt the Strait of Hormuz in response to a U.S. attack, according to a new report in the Wall Street Journal[1].

In several briefings, Caine warned the president that Iran would send missiles and drones to the area.

Sources told the Journal that Trump acknowledged the risks but moved forward with his deadly war anyway.

Trump, 79, told his administration that he thought Iran would capitulate to the U.S. before it closed the Strait, adding that even if the Strait was threatened, the U.S. military could handle it. ...

@#9 ... President Donald Trump, convinced that Iran would quickly bend to any U.S. pressure ...

So, Pres Trump thought Iran would be just another in-and-out like Venezuela?

Ya know, most of the comments you post I could easily disagree with the level of, oh - let's call it enthusiasm, presented in the comments.

But then every once in a while, I see a comment of yours that seems to just hit the ball out of the park.

Knew the Risk of Iran Blocking the Strait of Hormuz. He Still Went to War.

A large part of that is he just doesn't care. If it all turns to shit he'll just walk away and blame Jimmy Carter. And probably attack Cuba.

Netanyahu has a green light to bomb the shit out of Iran now, and that's all he really wanted. He commands the most powerful military force on the planet, and he enjoys it.
