- In DC, Judge Loren AliKhan issued a preliminary injunction that indefinitely blocks the administration from freezing federal grants and loans.
- Shortly before AliKhan issued her ruling, a separate jurist in the DC federal courthouse " Judge Amir Ali " ordered the Trump administration to pay foreign aid-related money owed to government contractors and nonprofit groups by Wednesday night, amid the legal fight over the freezing of USAID and State Department funds.
- Meanwhile, across the country in Washington state, a federal judge in Seattle issued a preliminary injunction on Tuesday that halts Trump's executive order suspending refugee admissions and funding.

Musk's ex-Twitter workers win severance over layoff after fork in the road' email www.detroitnews.com
... Former Twitter employees are scoring early victories in legal challenges to Elon Musk's mass layoffs when he bought the company in 2022. Four ex-Twitter workers have prevailed in a recent series of closed-door arbitration proceedings over claims they were illegally denied severance, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg News. More than two years ago, Musk asked Twitter employees in an email with the subject line "A Fork in the Road" to either commit to an "extremely hardcore" work environment or leave the company. ...

Three smackdowns won't phase Trump one bit. He's just testing his boundaries. The Ace he has up his sleeve is the U.S. Supreme Court. If they dare.
Hold on tight. The real war to save democracy isn't even off the launch pad yet.

Save money? These firings will end up costing FAR more. Especially with Unions involved. I mean they already are costing us I am sure in inefficiencies and vacancies in jobs needed to make things happen.
Note: I am not saying that trimming employee headcount in the government is necessarily bad. What is bad is the vindictive, haphazard and false accusations coming with these firings. There is no plan, rhyme or reason for what they are doing.

PETE @ #5
Trump needs $4.5 TRILLION and he needs it NOW!
There's not a thought in his head about who he has to trample to get it. Trump is just living in the moment.
The budget showdown is March 4th and he's sweating bullets.
The country is finally getting the lowdown on Trump which will probably put GOP congresscritters skating on thin ice in the midterms ~~ that is, if we still have a congress in two years.

Optimists. The playbook being executed has been successful in Russia and Hungary, most notably, and in other nations as well. We aren't even close.

Take the case of USAID. Trump was supposed to restore all funding. Nothing has been done. Trump is now going for an emergency SCOTUS intervention. He's also positing it's too late, that USAID is dead and can't be revived.
So what do you think the Courts are going to do? Force Trump to restaff and rebuild USAID? Hiow successful would that be?
Best we get ready for Ebola, Bubonic plague, new drug resistant HIV (20 million (check that number) people cut off from the medications they need to keep it under control), not to mention measles, leprosy, and so much more. But the billionaires are going to be even richer than every before.

'Trump Before Trump': How Hungary Foreshadows America's Right-Wing Embrace www.newsweek.com
... Hungarian Foreign Minister Pter Szijjrt has nothing but praise for U.S. President Donald Trump, having developed a strong relationship during the first Trump administration and seeing only positives from the initial month of Trump's second term. Touting Hungary as "kind of Trump before Trump," Szijjrt sees the two countries increasingly aligned on policy and worldview. ...

@#12 ... So what do you think the Courts are going to do? ...
The Courts can only rule.
They cannot do anything.
Because the anything that needs to be done, is done by the Executive branch.

Lamplighter, yes. Elucidating, Trump is currently executing what Putin did regarding the press. Removing independence and access to the WH and to Trump himself, doing away with the White House Correspondence that determines who cover the WH and report. Instead Trump is choosing who he will allow to report on him and the WH. The ramifications can't be overstated.

Sorry, Lamp, no official news story, alas, but it's from a BlueSky user followed by Historian Heather Cox Richardson: bsky.app
"On the HHS Leadership call today: 1 employee from CMS (Center for Medicare/Medicaid Service) and 2 employees from SSA (Social Security Administration) have died by suicide after their firing."
We'll have to see if this story develops, but there is a chance it's hooey

Everyone I have spoken with or worked with at CMS has been wonderful, caring, kind, and helpful. I don't get this demonizing one bit. It takes way too long to be able to speak to someone, way too long on hold - but that has nothing to do with anyone being lazy or not caring. It has to do with not funding it properly in the first place. The very opposite of what is going on now. This is utterly ridiculous.
