Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A Mexican security consultant who worked for the USDoS was ambushed at a restaurant in Guadalajara. The former minister of security for Hidalgo state was also killed and another instructor was wounded. Mexico has a high homicide rate, mostly related to the drug cartels. In 2020, 35,644 murders took place and 70% of the recovered weapons originated in the US. Federal magistrates in New Mexico are dismissing national security charges against immigrants who crossed through a newly designated military zone, finding little evidence that immigrants knew about the zones. AUSAs had charged 400 immigrants with misdemeanor trespassing. Misdemeanor illegal entry into the US charges remain. In NYC, a Mexican Navy training ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, killing two sailors and injuring 19 others on board as the tops of its masts were sheared off. The Cuauhtemoc, used for sail training and international goodwill tours, lost power just before crashing into the bridge at about 8PM.

A politician in Mexico could campaign on "Build a Wall." To keep US guns out and have the U.S. pay for it.

I'm surprised they haven't done so sooner. As you and I and most of us know, guns in cartel hands were purchased in the U.S.

A good idea. But as anyone who's ever been pulled over in Mexico knows, "La Mordida" (bribes) are common and expected in many cases.

Doesn't take muany $s for a Mexican border agent to look the other way, knowing to wave in particular vehicles without inspection.

I used to get pulled over - usually in Tijuana - most times I drove to Ensenada. They'd make up some BS violation and ask me questions like "what do you do for a living, senor?" and other questions to gauge how much they thought they could get from me. After the second time I had to wait at a police station for a jefe to get back from the bowling alley or strip club, a friend told me, "offer the cop a twenty and ask him if he'd kindly take the money to the station when he's off shift and pay your fine for you." Works like a charm! And they couldn't accuse me of bribery.

The Mexican government is planning federal lawsuits against US gun manufacturers:

The issue here, is now Americans can sue Mexico for Mexicans that killed their family members.
