The wrongful death civil trial against 6 Jan terrorists Taylor Taranto and David Walls-Kaufman opened In Washington, DC. Erin Smith, the widow of MPD Officer Jeffrey Smith testified that her husband suffered from a "brain injury" and "severe depression," the result of defending the US Capitol, which caused him to commit suicide nine days later. During the 6 Jan attack on the US Capitol, Walls-Kaufman allegedly struck Officer Smith "specifically and maliciously" in the face with a metal tactical "cane" while his face shield was up. Taranto is accused of giving Walls-Kaufman the weapon. President Trump pardoned the approximate 1,500 convicted assailants who had attacked the US Capitol on 6 Jan 2021; some would go on to commit other crimes. These pardons cost victims and the American taxpayer 1.3bn in restitution payments and fines. Source: drudge.com

After OJ Simpson was acquitted in the infamous murder trial for killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman last century, he was successfully sued for wrongful death by the Goldman family. Similarly, since justice was denied Erin Smith thanks to Trumpf's pardons, she will pursue these two maniacs with civil litigation. This tactic should be adopted by as many victims of the 6 Jan attackers as possible; Trumpf's pardons cannot protect them from lawsuits. Link: Complaint

the difference here is that these guys were convicted of a crime. OJ was not.

OJ's personal lines insurance had to defend and pay on his behalf...all the way to the policy limit, which I believe was $2 or $2 million.

These guys won't have that and unless they are otherwise wealthy people.....this lawsuit might generate an award......but it won't get paid out. These guys will be defending themselves on their own dime.

Blood from a turnip more than likely.

#3: Hi Eberly: "Blood from a turnip" may be the financial payout to the Widow Smith, but the symbolic victory for her will be worth it. If the court finds these two miscreants guilty, they may be economically ruined for the rest of their wretched lives. The court can attach their salaries and assets to pay off the restitution. Mike Lindell, Rudy Giuliani, and Alex Jones have felt the sting of losing multi-million dollar lawsuits. Rudy Giuliani reportedly has a net worth of minus $150m: www.celebritynetworth.com

So, an inability to pay for the ramifications of an allegedly committed crime is a reason not to be held responsible to that alleged crime?

I think this is going to be extremely difficult to prove beyond preponderance of doubt.
