Russia and China began joint naval drills in the Sea of Japan on Sunday as they seek to reinforce their "no-limits" strategic partnership -- signed shortly before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The drills take place two days after US President Donald Trump announced he had deployed two nuclear submarines to "the appropriate regions" in response to comments by former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev.

... US President Donald Trump announced he had deployed two nuclear submarines ...

If I may be so bold to ask ...

Pres Trump's comment was ambiguous.

"Nuclear submarines"

Does that mean ...

Nuclear powered?

- or -

Nuclear-weapon equipped?

There's a huge difference between the two.

Has he ever been specific? About anything?

#2: All submarines currently in the US Navy are nuclear-powered and 14 Ohio-class SSBNs carry Trident atomic warheads which can hit Russia from anywhere in the world, so moving them closer to the target means nothing. The USN (as well as the UK and French navies) would never divulge a thing about the disposition of their SSBNs as the Russians are tracking them. Announcing this movement is terrible kabuki theater between Trumpf and the Kremlin as he is buying time for Putin in his war against Ukraine while demonstrating to his believers that he is standing up to Putin.

@#4

I'd say that is a ood analysis of the situation, as I see it.

kabuki theater

Yup.

But, I have to ask, if someone feels the need to assert a dominance, isn't that really just an admission of weakness?
