245 Americans sought refugee status in Canada in the first half of 2025, more than all of 2024, reveals Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). Dummkopf Trumpf's policies on immigration, healthcare, and LGBTQ+ rights are probably behind this. To gain asylum in Canada, a refugee must convince the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board that nowhere in their home country " for Americans in the US " is safe for them. As per the Canada immigration website, none of the 245 refugee applications have been accepted. Eight immigration lawyers reported that more and more trans Americans want to leave the US because of Trumpf's aggressive anti-trans policies. Since 20 Jan 2025, Trumpf has rolled back several protections granted to trans individuals. This includes placing restrictions on who can access gender-affirming care, individuals who can serve in the military, who can use which washroom, and restrictions on sports.

Canada's acceptance of refugees from the US has been historically low. The same phenomenon of Americans seeking refuge in Canada occurred during Dotard Trumpf's first Reign of Terror. Below, Kataluna Enriquez made history in 2021 when she became the first transgender woman to compete in Miss USA. In addition to her work as a model and fashion designer, Ms. Enriquez also works as a healthcare administrator with a focus on healthcare needs for LGBTQ+ patients. Kataluna Enriquez was born in the Philippines and emigrated to the US with her family when she was ten. There is no information as to whether she is one of the refugee applicants to Canada.

I think the Nobel Peace Prize winning, Nuclear Engineer, and Naval officer President Jimmy Carter pardoned them.

Jimmy Carter's first executive order as POTUS (21 Jan 1977) was to pardon all US citizens who went to Canada (or other countries) to avoid conscription to Vietnam. President Carter also ordered a review of all court-martial cases of convicted soldiers who served in Vietnam:

The Canadian government "looked the other way" for these young men who did not want to fight in Vietnam. However, the Canadian authorities would arrest a US military deserter and return them to America, as desertion is a crime in Canada.

50,000 Canadians volunteered to serve in the US military in Vietnam.
