As public opinion in the country increasingly turns against the U.S. president over his threats to seize Greenland, the AfD is seeing the downside of its strong alignment with him.

Donald Trump's unpopularity in Germany is forcing the far-right AfD leaders to attempt an awkward balancing act: Criticize the U.S. president, while not undermining the efforts the party has made to forge links with him. ðŸ"-- politi.co/4aYdlUL

... But as public sentiment in Germany increasingly turns against U.S. President Donald Trump and his foreign interventionism -- in particular his talk of taking control of Greenland and his seizure of Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro -- AfD leaders are recalibrating, putting distance between their party and a U.S. president they previously embraced.

"He has violated a fundamental election promise, namely not to interfere in other countries, and he has to explain that to his own voters," Alice Weidel, one of the AfD's national leaders, said earlier this week. ...

Then there's this about Germany's AFP ...

Elon Musk faces criticism for encouraging Germans to move beyond 'past guilt' (January 2025)
www.npr.org

... Fresh off a controversy over a gesture many saw as a Nazi salute, tech billionaire Elon Musk appeared virtually at a campaign event for a far-right German political party on Saturday, where he urged listeners not to be ashamed of their country's history.

Musk " the head of President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency " was met with roars of applause from the more than 4,000 attendees gathered in the German city of Halle as he appeared on screen at a rally for the Alternative fr Deutschland (AfD) party.

"I think you really are the best hope for Germany," Musk told them. ...

#1 Not enough N/W flags for that comment, Lamp.

When German Nazis are distancing themselves from Pedodent Trump, well, it speaks volumes.

The 4th Reich is too Nazi for the remnants of the 3rd?

That's gotta be some kind of accomplishment!

@#5 ... That's gotta be some kind of accomplishment! ...

Yeah.

That was my first thought when I read the article.

Pres Trump has become toxic. Even, apparently, too toxic for the German Nazis.

"the AfD is seeing the downside of its strong alignment"

After the Reich fell and Germany was partitioned, the people in East Germany lived a pretty much Whites Only life until 1990.
Whereas West Germany has been open, free, and multi-cultural since the end of WWII.

And Germany before 1933 was the home of Avant Garde and all kinds of things Deplorables can't stand, like treating blacks and homosexuals as equals, and acknowledging the existence of transgender people.

So, you know, it explains why the people in the former East Germany are racist.
Because it's their Nazi and Soviet Eastern Bloc heritage, from 1933 to 1990. Fifty-seven years of living under totalitarian repression.
Cultural memory of pre-1933 Germany in East Germany has been bred out, over three generations.

Vienna Academy of Fine Arts offers Donald Trump a place to study.
"In the past, the university did not always give promising intellectuals the opportunity they deserved, thus unnecessarily driving them into politics. That should never happen again."
