The House passed a bill to force public school teachers to out transgender students to their parents and eight Democrats voted for it: Reps. Henry Cuellar (TX), Donald Davis (NC), Cleo Fields (LA.), Laura Gillen (NY), Vicente Gonzalez (TX), Marcy Kaptur (OH), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA.) and Eugene Vindman (VA) all voted for this bill. Three of those Democrats -- Gillen, Gluesenkamp Perez, and Vindman -- are members of the Congressional Equality Caucus, which advocates for LGBTQ+ rights.

I'm sorry, but I just do not see a situation in which teachers hiding information about someone else's minor child comes out well for teachers. If, after talking to the kid, the kid is seen as being put into harm's way by notifying the parents, the parents need to be put on notice that if anything happens to the kid, they're Suspect #1. Districts can act to protect the kids, but hiding info from parents puts educators in a horrid position.

This is the subtle, plodding march of creating an "informant society" for every facet of our lives, like East Germany and the hated Stasi or today's North Korea.

ICE wants informants to root out migrants.

State Dept wants "non-Christian" behavior reported.

HHS wants hospital patients to inform them via their CMS website if they have been served Jell-O or oranges (see my OP about that).

The malevolent Trumpf junta may soon use AI to create a Kempei-Tai-- the pre-1945 Japanese "Thought Police" to stamp out dissent.

These Democrats-- especially Ukrainian-descent Eugene Vindman (VA)-- ought to hang their heads in shame.

It's not supposed to come out well for teachers.
It's supposed to come out well for students.
