Music at link is Anthony Braxton, "To Composer John Cage."

More

Alternate links: Google News | Twitter

The landmark solo jazz album For Alto by American composer and saxophonist Anthony Braxton was recorded in 1969. It was later released in 1971 by Delmark Records. The album is widely celebrated as the first full-length jazz album consisting entirely of unaccompanied solo saxophone music.

Life is so crazy these days, Braxton is a soundtrack and cathartic and gets your mind off things.

I think the best parts are what only our dog can hear. She curls right up under the speaker.

This weekend's gratuitous blast of new free improvisation (recorded 10/07/26).

Sax, electric guitar (and all the necessary pedals these days), and drums.

If you enjoy watching guitarists get into it, slide it up to about 22 minutes and watch for awhile. Of course, there's better and crazier out there. This appears to be the drummer's house stage in Brooklyn.

New Model Army - White Coats (1987)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

www.newmodelarmy.org

...
Well we know what makes the flowers grow - but we don't know why
And we all have the knowledge of DNA - but we still die
We perch so thin and fragile here upon the land
And the earth that moves beneath us, we don't understand

So we rush towards the Judgement Day, when She reclaims
A toast to the Luddite martyrs then, who died in vain
Down at the lab they're working still, finishing off
How do we tell the people in the white coats
Enough is enough?

Ch: Hey, hey I listen to you pray as if some help will come
Hey, hey She will dance on our graves when we are dead and gone

You and I we made no suicide pact - we didn't want to die
But we watch the wall, little darling, while the chemical trucks go by
This desperate imitation, now, of innocence
Those last few days at Jonestown ain't got nothing on this

...

As children learn about the world, we built that wall of sand
Along the beach we laboured hard with our bare hands
We worked until the sun went down beneath the waves
And the tide came rolling splashing in, washed the wall away
How do we tell the people in the white coats
Enough is enough?
...

Giorgio Moroder - The Duel (1984)
www.youtube.com

The Hollywood representation of AI from back in the early 1980's.

From the soundtrack of the film "Electric Dreams." The song is the soundtrack when a human celloist goes up against an AI music generating device. While the limits of AI back then are quite apparent, the eventual resulting harmony between the two tells of a hope that AI and humans can work together.

Electric Dreams is one of my (very few) fav movies from the 80's.

A fun tune, not chaos ...

Flim And The B.B.'s - Funhouse (1985)
www.youtube.com

It's an instrumental, so no lyrics.

Flim & the BB's
en.wikipedia.org

... Flim & the BB's was a contemporary jazz band that was among the first bands to record albums digitally.

...

The group's self-titled debut album was recorded in 1978 at Sound 80 and was ostensibly going to be a direct to disc recording.

Nevertheless, 3M placed an experimental prototype 50.4 kHz digital recorder in the control room as a backup to the direct-to-disc lathe.

Because of the "direct-to-disc" setup (recording directly onto a lacquer platter) the band was required to play the entire LP side without stopping and without being able to do any editing afterward.

When the resulting acetate disc was deemed inferior in sound quality to the digital master tape, the LP record was pressed from that digital backup tape, making it the second-ever U.S. commercially available digital recording.

Since the machine used was a one-of-a-kind prototype, built before any digital recording standards were established"and dismantled within months"there is currently no way to reissue that first album on either LP or CD.[2]

Flim and the BB's recorded its second album, Tricycle, for DMP Digital Music Products, an audiophile record label started by Tom Jung. The album was the first non-classical recording to be released in compact disc format.

It was recorded on the Mitsubishi X-80 digital audio recorder at Sound 80. The disc displayed the full dynamic range available in CDs, becoming a popular test disc for this reason.

It was also the first jazz album to be recorded, mastered, and delivered in the digital domain. ...
