The incumbents in every single one of the 10 major countries that have been tracked by the ParlGov global research project and held national elections in 2024 were given a kicking by voters. This is the first time this has ever happened in almost 120 years of records. The cause? Inflation. read more

Just hours after Donald Trump's election win on Tuesday, Black people, including children, across the US reported receiving racist text messages telling them that they had been "selected" to pick cotton and needed to report to "the nearest plantation". While the texts, some of which were signed "a Trump supporter", varied in detail, they all conveyed the same essential message about being selected to pick cotton. read more

No traction for more positive economic developments, research says

Obama and Clinton were elected because of a bad economy. Carter lost because of one.

Of course, like in the past, Dems had other issues this time, like Biden misrepresenting his condition and depriving Dems of an actual nomination process. But, IMHO, we need to stop reading too much into things and accept that sometimes candidates are subject to forces beyond their control.

That's going to werk out SO well!

Ever since democrats abandoned populism their only win was due to a pandemic being flubbed by the republican.

I'm coming to the conclusion that people just don't care, absent some great crisis.

The only reason Obama won in 2008 was because of the financial meltdown, with McCain/Palin ahead by 5+ points before that happened. The 2008 Onion post-election headline summed it up pretty nicely ("Nation Finally [Sheetey] Enough To Make Social Progress" theonion.com ). Clinton only won because of the poor economy and Perot siphoning off Bush Sr.'s votes.

On top of that, Dems govern doing a balancing act of not teeing off their base (e.g., Latinos by shutting down the border, trans-friendly policies, expressing concern for the well-being of Palestinian terrorists, etc). Herding cats with each position costing them with someone else.

Trump keeps winning by lying through his teeth about the sky falling, Mexican rapists, and Haitian pet eaters and motivates his base to turn out, everyone hearing what they wanted to hear.

Dems try to rile people up but the concepts are too vague (fascism, democracy, corruption) to register with people or cut through the fact that ground beef costs $5 a pound.

The first day of the bombs keep dropping while Trump is President I just hope there's a live camera in Dearborn so he can see the faces of the stupid rodent people who thought that Trump would actually give a damn about them.

Sounds like Hamas is already begging for peace and Qatar is kicking Hamas out.

After Hamas rejection of hostage deal, US asked Qatar to expel the group www.reuters.com

Palestinians dismayed by Trump's win, their leaders urge peace www.reuters.com

Funny how having US leadership that doesn't depend on Islamic terrorist sympathizers to maintain power can achieve certain results.

Of course, what Trump giveth with one hand ... he'll be giving Putin carte blanche to run amok in Europe.

So I guess Europe will have to put on their big-boy pants and figure out if they want to handle Russia now or ten years from now when it is much stronger, since it looks like the GOP will be sabatoging US efforts on that front for the next twelve years (under Hair Furor and two-term President Vance).
