@#4 ... And then there is the debt limit vote coming up towards the end of January. (yeah, the actual limit kicks in on January 1, but that is not a hard limit) ...
Some background ...
What to know about the debt ceiling debate as a government shutdown looms in Washington (December 19, 2024)
apnews.com
... The last time lawmakers raised the debt limit was June 2023. Rather than raise the limit by a dollar amount, lawmakers suspended the debt limit through Jan. 1, 2025. At that point, the limit will be automatically raised to match the amount of debt that has been issued by the Treasury Department. ...
What happens if the debt ceiling isn't raised?
There's actually no need to raise the debt limit right now. On Jan. 1, when the debt limit is triggered, the Treasury Department can begin using what it calls "extraordinary measures" to ensure that America doesn't default on its debts.
Some estimate these accounting maneuvers could push the default deadline to the summer of 2025 -- but that's exactly what Trump wants to avoid, since an increase would then be needed while he is president.
Lawmakers have always raised the debt ceiling in time because the consequences of failure are stark. Without action, the government would go into default on its debts, a first-ever situation that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and economic experts have said could be "catastrophic" for the economy and global markets.
Raising or suspending the debt limit does not authorize new spending or tax cuts; it merely acknowledges past budgetary decisions -- that is, current budget law -- and so allows the federal government to meet its existing legal obligations. For that reason and others, some have advocated doing away with the limit altogether. ...

US Has Dropped from 1st to 24th Worldwide in Education Since 1979?
www.snopes.com
... Then-President Jimmy Carter founded the Department of Education in 1979.
Rating: Unfounded
On Nov. 11, 2024, X owner Elon Musk posted an image (archived) of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter that was captioned: "In 1979 I created the Department of Education. Since then America went from 1st to 24th in education."
Musk wrote in his post, which had amassed more than 64 million views and 613,000 likes as of this writing: "Not exactly great value for money!"
In short, there is no single definitive scale that determines the ranking of nations' education quality worldwide, though several organizations have published their own assessments. Snopes was unable to track down an assessment that found the U.S. specifically ranked 24th worldwide. Musk's post also did not specify several key items, such as which year the U.S. was in 24th place or which assessments the claim referred to. Therefore, we have rated this claim as unfounded.
Snopes contacted Musk and the Department of Education seeking evidence regarding the claim and will update this story if we receive a response.
As of This Writing, Does the US Rank 24th Worldwide?
Various organizations have reached different conclusions, but Snopes did not track down any significant survey, report or analysis that found the U.S. ranked 24th worldwide in education in 2024.
For example, U.S. News ranked the U.S. as first in its widely-cited 2024 Best Countries report, which reportedly surveyed the views of "close to 17,000 global citizens." ...

Two Gallants - Seems Like Home To Me (2007)

Lyrics excerpt ...
...
Baby, let your light shine on me
When I'm lost on the road
You know you could set me free
You could ease my load
Days get so dark
That I can't hardly see
I've been gone so long
It seems like home to me
Well baby, when I was young of age
I took you for my world
The oceans were your eyes
The pastures were your curves
But now I'm all alone
Stranded in the West
Where you sleep tonight
I can only guess
Baby, let your light shine on me
When I'm lost on the road
You know you could set me free
You could ease my load
There's something o'er the hill
You know I gotta see
I've been gone so long
It seems like home to me

@#1 ... Connecticut cannabis is not sold in a bubble. If a consumer can't find what they want in the shop down the block, they need only travel across the border to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York or New Jersey. ...
I enjoy listening to a ~local~ adult alternative music station (as I have mentioned in prior comments, www.1071thepeak.com ). Advertisers on that station have been the cannabis shops in NY, with home delivery!
While I do not partake, I can see why they chose that demographic for their advertising.

Nina Gordon - Tonight and the Rest of My Life (2000)
www.youtube.com
Lyrics excerpt ...
...
[Verse 1]
Down to the earth
I fell with dripping wings
Heavy things won't fly
And the sky might catch on fire
And burn the axis of the world
That's why I prefer a sunless sky
To the glittering and stinging in my eyes
[Chorus]
I feel so light
This is all I wanna feel tonight
I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life
Tonight and the rest of my life
[Verse 2]
Gleaming in the dark sea
I'm as light as air floating there breathlessly
When the dream dissolves
I open up my eyes
I realize that everything is shoreless sea
A weightlessness is passing over me
[Chorus]
I feel so light
This is all I wanna feel tonight
I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life
Tonight and the rest of my life
