The Swastika Thread (01/04)
Talk about Swastikas that have been in the news recently, whether it's the auspicious symbol used by billions of people, the misappropriated version used by handful of losers, or lovely Indian women who happen to be named Swastika.

Korean rapper Kim Namjoon, leader of the band BTS, found himself at the center of an unexpected controversy on January 1, 2025, after a photo of him in his military uniform surfaced online. This incident highlights the challenges of cultural misunderstanding in a globalized world. Despite the initial backlash, many fans hope this moment will encourage others to explore the true significance of symbols like the swastika in their original contexts.

- the true significance of symbols like the swastika in their original contexts.
Was interesting for the few people who didn't know the first time it was posted here years ago... but the origins in no way dilute the modern meaning most often associated with the swastika for almost 100 years since it made world headlines and came represent Nazi Germany.
I am truly sorry that many of us here were already aware of it's origins, but it may just be time for you to let the whole stupid obsession go.

Maybe it's time for you to grow up and accept you live in a global society and stop promoting Asian hate. I'm sure the little Austrian would have been proud of you for giving credence to his perverted version of the symbol and helping him to eradicate all the cultures that used it independently both before and after his little blip of existence.

And the idea that the swastika is just an Asian thing?
"The irony is that the swastika is more European in origin than most people realise. Archaeological finds have long demonstrated that the swastika is a very old symbol, but ancient examples are by no means limited to India.
It was used by the Ancient Greeks, Celts, and Anglo-Saxons and some of the oldest examples have been found in Eastern Europe, from the Baltic to the Balkans .
If you want to see just how deeply rooted the swastika pattern is in Europe, a good place to start is Kiev where the National Museum of the History of Ukraine has an impressive range of exhibits."

Of course, if you want to see the art in Kiev, you better hurry on over.

Never said it was, but it still continued to be used ubiquitously after WWII and into the present day there. Most European countries have already ceded the symbol to the bastardized version, so in the present context this is about trying to impose Europe's culture on the rest of the world and invalidating the majority of the culture on the planet. If that's not white supremacy, then nothing is.

I'm old enough to remember when any association with Nazism, even if misguided or incorrect, was, shall we say, less than fashionable. Now you can't swing a cat without hitting elements of it being (re)normalized. No thanks.

@#11 ... Be sure and hit up the AfD and support their use of the swastika illegally in Germany. ...
It looks like he is just trying to normalize the use of swastikas in current US politics.
The question on my mind is ... why?

Colonialism and Imperialism already did that.
You're a few centuries late to the party.

Agreed.
As I noted in #12, this thread looks more like a failed attempt to normalize the use of the Swatiska by hate groups in the US.
And I still ask the question .... why?

"Colonialism and Imperialism already did that."
You're actively being a part of an extension of those things when you promote the hakenkreuz as the primary definition of a swastika and try to impose it on everyone everywhere. You're exemplifying the same type of ignorance and xenophobia that you regularly call out the MAGAs for every day here.

"this thread looks more like a failed attempt to normalize the use of the Swatiska by hate groups in the US."
That's totally baseless, just like most of your alias' observations about others on this site. I've condemned those who misappropriated the symbol many times.

It's not modern at all. Like you say, it's almost 100 years since the misappropriation happened. It seems like you and other want to validate that misappropriation and ignorant association. Why else would you become so hostile to any factual information about how the original meaning of the symbol is still in use in many cultures today?
#19 | Posted by sentinel at 2025-01-04 09:36 PM | Reply
Historically speaking, 100 years ago is yesterday... and we are still seeing the effects of Nazism rising again in the US and Germany, among others.
- information about how the original meaning of the symbol is still in use in many cultures today?
We already knew that prior to your private war to make us know that.
It's just slightly possible that you are not the Hulk Hogan of Information... oh, wait... maybe you are.

@19 ... It's not modern at all. ...
The current usage is modern, though.
The usurping of the Swastika by so many in the US should be a concern, not a deflection attempt.
So, I ask once again...
As I noted in #12, this thread looks more like a failed attempt to normalize the use of the Swatiska by hate groups in the US. And I still ask the question .... why?
All I got in response to that question was a deflection.

A curious aspect of this thread for me ... why was the date placed in the title?
Are we going to be asked this question on a daily basis, much like Boaz's daily morning threads?

"Historically speaking, 100 years ago is yesterday... and we are still seeing the effects of Nazism rising again in the US and Germany, among others."
All the more reason to remind people that their misappropriation of the symbol is an aberration, just like Daesh's use of Islamic symbols does not represent all of Islam. Likewise, Jewish people shouldn't have to practice their religion in the closet just because one of their symbols is associated with the flag of Israel.
"We already knew that prior to your private war to make us know that."
It's funny, because I hardly ever bring this up anymore, except in response to people who constantly bring up swastikas in threads which have nothing to do with them. But since you guys love bringing the topic up all the time, I'm happy to keep educating you about it and share new news articles to "dilute" people's ignorance.

I'm more anti-bigotry than pro-swastika.
So then, you hate Jews?
Make this make sense.
Since the 1920s, the swastika has been the symbol of the Nazi party and since the 1930s became the symbol for white nationalism, and anti Judaism.
More De Facto than De Jure.
You do realize symbols change, right?
Florida was attempting to ban rainbows in classrooms, not due to a hate for the light spectrum or Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album, but because it's a symbol for the LGBTQ+.
(Although, now every letter has their own flag, which, I don't understand, the rainbow included everyone. But. I'm an antique gay. I'm sure this is more inclusive for everyone's feelings. And I'm sure someone didn't understand the rainbow wasn't just for gay men.)

You're essentially making the same argument as those who promoted Islamophobia after 9/11. They wanted to get rid of all the Muslims and mosques because the associated Islam with terror, and if you didn't agree with them they called you a terrorist sympathizer. In the same way you try to paint me as a Nazi sympathizer for refusing to cede a sacred symbol to them.

Try telling a prospective buyer a Navajo rug from the 1920s with a swastika design is simply "whirling logs" (or a concession to the marketplace's tastes). Ancient symbol, found over times and places. But the jackbooted goosesteppers effed it up. For how long? As far as anyone reading this? Forever.

"Not even close."
If it makes you feel better to pretend that to try to justify your behavior, go ahead. I understand the visceral reactions people have to both what the Nazis and Al Qaeda did, but that doesn't excuse institutionalizing irrational beliefs, in either case.
"But the jackbooted goosesteppers effed it up. For how long? As far as anyone reading this? Forever"
And there are still people today who insist that the hijackers effed up anything that looks like Islam forevermore You know, the type of people who attacked innocent Sikhs because they reminded them of Muslims. And people who make excuses for those people.

On the contrary, it's trying to denormalize misconceptions about the symbol and take power away from the aberrant version of it.
