OK, my view of this is that we will now seew hether the House Republicans fell into line only to elect Spkr Johnson and assure that Pres-elect Trump becomes Pres Trump.

Or, maybe the Republicans just wanted to get ~their guy~ in the Oval office, and now they want something in return?

I have not a clue about the outcome of this event.

It will happen. Lewzer is the best deal maker in history. Just ask hm.

With congressional majorities this slim nothing is going to be sweeping legislatively.

I remember from back in his first term. His "deal making" abilities were stymied.

And back then he had a bigger majority in Congress.

The Republicans hold their slimmest margin in Congress since, well, decades.

My current question(s) ...

Will Spkr Johnson need to do deals with Democrats in order to get bills passed?

If that is the case (a big "if," imo) will Spkr Johnson survive a Move to Vacate vote?

And then there is the debt limit vote coming up towards the end of January. (yeah, the actual limit kicks in on January 1, but that is not a hard limit)

Two Gallants - Seems Like Home To Me (2007)

Lyrics excerpt ...

...
Baby, let your light shine on me
When I'm lost on the road
You know you could set me free
You could ease my load

Days get so dark
That I can't hardly see
I've been gone so long
It seems like home to me

Well baby, when I was young of age
I took you for my world
The oceans were your eyes
The pastures were your curves

But now I'm all alone
Stranded in the West
Where you sleep tonight
I can only guess

Baby, let your light shine on me
When I'm lost on the road
You know you could set me free
You could ease my load

There's something o'er the hill
You know I gotta see
I've been gone so long

It seems like home to me

@#4 ... And then there is the debt limit vote coming up towards the end of January. (yeah, the actual limit kicks in on January 1, but that is not a hard limit) ...

Some background ...

What to know about the debt ceiling debate as a government shutdown looms in Washington (December 19, 2024)
apnews.com

... The last time lawmakers raised the debt limit was June 2023. Rather than raise the limit by a dollar amount, lawmakers suspended the debt limit through Jan. 1, 2025. At that point, the limit will be automatically raised to match the amount of debt that has been issued by the Treasury Department. ...

What happens if the debt ceiling isn't raised?

There's actually no need to raise the debt limit right now. On Jan. 1, when the debt limit is triggered, the Treasury Department can begin using what it calls "extraordinary measures" to ensure that America doesn't default on its debts.

Some estimate these accounting maneuvers could push the default deadline to the summer of 2025 -- but that's exactly what Trump wants to avoid, since an increase would then be needed while he is president.

Lawmakers have always raised the debt ceiling in time because the consequences of failure are stark. Without action, the government would go into default on its debts, a first-ever situation that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and economic experts have said could be "catastrophic" for the economy and global markets.

Raising or suspending the debt limit does not authorize new spending or tax cuts; it merely acknowledges past budgetary decisions -- that is, current budget law -- and so allows the federal government to meet its existing legal obligations. For that reason and others, some have advocated doing away with the limit altogether. ...

Ya know, one side of me agrees with Pres-elect Trump that there should not be a debt ceiling that seems to haunt Congress.

On the other hand Pres-elect trump future tax cuts for billionaires that may increase the debt by multiple trillions cause me concern.

Let me phrase that differently...

If your spouse tells you that they want to raise the credit limit on your joint credit card to, well, infinity because they want to buy a lot of stuff they cannot afford.

What might be your response?

I'll wager we will see another flaming Tesla pickup truck in the form of the proposed bill. Republicans in the House cannot decide when to go to the restroom, much less all agree on a bill that will certainly be packed with district specific giveaways. And this whole DOGE will fall on its face when Congress folk realize they will have to cut the throats of their constituents by agreeing to big cuts back home ...

I thought they were against massive bills nobody can read that packs too much into it?

It's hard to tell whether they're intentionally pushing MAGA buttons to draw a response.
