Aid to foreign countries that are developing/poor should be considered an investment.

By providing aid it give the US an opportunity to influence said country-there are 2 ways to look at that one good one bad, good=we are spreading our values, bad=we are blackmailing those countries into supporting us.

But, either way you look at it, it provides America with influence.

Influence that reveals itself in many ways:

1. beneficial trade agreements
2. opportunities to develop economic resources for our use
3. opportunities for basing US military personnel for our strategic use
4. security arrangements that allow us to expand our influence into insecure nations like Somalia

The $50 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to what we get back in return

If we stop that aid, er, WHEN we stop that aid, those developing nations will turn elsewhere for that investment-notably China, India, Brazil and Russia

Those nations' influence and the benefits accrued therefrom will transfer to those nations.

This has been happening for decades now. While we are bombing countries and stopping aid China has been building ports and developing resources.

This is an INCREDIBLY bad idea.`

here's a lot of talk about new tariffs into US, but what about existing duties charged by other countries against US goods? Why is that info so hard to find now? I was able to find it before, at least for China. Today, no matter how specifically it's phrased, google only returns the same 'Trump tariff' articles.

You don't understand how a. drugs work, b. tariffs work and c. capitalism works.

When in the past 50 years has America been able to stop or slow the importation of drugs?

Here is the impact of tariffs in the real world:

1. Price on imported goods increase
2. Price of domestic good that is equivalent increases because supply of said good increases.
3. Since we are mostly talking raw product and/or parts there is no equivalent capacity or ability of domestic industries to match imports. Where are the trees and mills that will make up for the lost imports? Where are the farms that suddenly will grow fruits and vegetables that do not grow in our climate? Where in our country is the type of crude oil we import? How is transportation of oil and gas to the areas that need it (Northeast and north west) factored in?
4. Domestic corporations in similar industries to those impacted by importation WILL increase their prices, cause they can
5. Retaliatory tariffs will cause our industries/farmers to not be able to sell their crop. They grew a crop for export, that crop is not needed here. Those farmers will need to be bailed out.

These are simple commonly known concepts of tariffs, EVEN ------- has finally admitted it.

To what purpose?

Here is a basic fact-supply and demand. If there is a demand a supply will find a way.
