France plans to build a brand new high-security prison in the Amazon rainforest near the site of the notorious Devil's Island penal colony in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guiana. Bordering Suriname, the new Bastille will cost French taxpayers a total 400 million euros ($451 million) and will also house a court. This jungle dungeon would incarcerate drug kingpins and radical Islamists, including 60 maximum-security prisoners. How much de-forestation to build this 500-inmate gulag in not clear. An Israeli doctor serving as an army reservist compared killing Palestinians in Gaza to "eliminating cockroaches." Writing on X, surgeon Sabo Amos, said he had volunteered to take part in "eliminations" after his battalion had killed "dozens of terrorists" the previous day. "After all, we're talking about eliminating cockroaches and other loathsome insects," Amos wrote in the now deleted post. Dr. Amos also posted an image which he said showed IDF soldiers participating in an afternoon Jewish prayer service in a mosque in northern Gaza. Why would Dr. Sabo Amos delete his own post? read more
The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) infographic is designed to promote the need for the Golden Dome aerospace defense system. The graphic displays the primary ICBM threats to the US: China with 400, rising to 700 by 2035 and Russia with 350, rising to 400 by 2035. North Korea possesses ten ICBMs, but will have 50 by 2035 while Iran has none today but could have up to 60 ICBMs in ten years. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), but Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, and India are not. The Golden Dome missile shield is set to receive $24.7 billion to kick off the initiative to tie together existing programs with newly developed technology. NORAD advises that Canada's participation in the missile defense system is limited to research involving the detection of incoming threats. Elon Musk's SpaceX company appears to be the front-runner to win a major contract in building the multi-billion dollar Golden Dome system. Sources: Link One Link Two read more
1) Canada has its first-ever minister of artificial intelligence (AI). Evan Solomon will have a massive job touching nearly every aspect of Canada's economy, government, and national security. Liberal PM Mark Carney had called for sweeping use of AI to create the "economy of the future," incentivize businesses to adopt AI, and build the requisite infrastructure. When it comes to the federal government, AI will be used to slash repetitive tasks and reduce costs in the public service. Solomon will also oversee digital transformation. 2) Turkiye unveiled the modernized Bayraktar TB2 drone enhanced with AI and capable of recognizing targets, making decisions in real time, and operating autonomously. During the initial Russian onslaught against Ukraine, the Bayraktar TB2 was a powerful weapon, but the Kremlin developed successful air defense countermeasures, limiting their effectiveness and use by Kiev. read more
A Mexican security consultant who worked for the USDoS was ambushed at a restaurant in Guadalajara. The former minister of security for Hidalgo state was also killed and another instructor was wounded. Mexico has a high homicide rate, mostly related to the drug cartels. In 2020, 35,644 murders took place and 70% of the recovered weapons originated in the US. Federal magistrates in New Mexico are dismissing national security charges against immigrants who crossed through a newly designated military zone, finding little evidence that immigrants knew about the zones. AUSAs had charged 400 immigrants with misdemeanor trespassing. Misdemeanor illegal entry into the US charges remain. In NYC, a Mexican Navy training ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, killing two sailors and injuring 19 others on board as the tops of its masts were sheared off. The Cuauhtemoc, used for sail training and international goodwill tours, lost power just before crashing into the bridge at about 8PM. read more

Beto O'Rourke: 'Biden Failed This Country' by Seeking Second Term
Ex-Texas representative, who lost gubernatorial election to Greg Abbott, joins Democrats lambasting former president.
Joe Biden "failed this country in the most important job that he had" by deciding to run for another term as US president before dropping out of the election that returned Donald Trump to the White House, former representative Beto O'Rourke said.
"We might very well lose the greatest country that this world has ever known," the Texan who has unsuccessfully run for the presidency and his state's governorship said on Pod Save America. "And it might be in part because of the decision that Biden and those around him made to run for re-election."
Beto O'Rourke is a progressive in the US, but not in the Middle East. Here AIPAC posts a photo of him meeting with their representatives: mondoweiss.net
The Democrats continue their circular firing squad of blaming each other for the 2024 disaster. The fault lies with a party that lost 6,265,888 antiwar voters they had in 2020, but were horrified by the daily images of the IDF bombing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in 2024. The ethnic cleansing in Israel is all paid for by the hardworking American taxpayer, something the Joe Biden administration didn't stop, costing Kamala Harris the election.

Good Morning Doc: You know that unfortunately our system is based on mythology and imagery, a Potemkin Village of might and prosperity.
I knew some people who immigrated to the US from post-WWII Europe, like thousands and thousands of other refugees. When many of them voted in the US for the first time in 1952 or 1956, they told me they all voted for "Ike" because he beat the Third Reich and simply because of automatic name recognition. These new Americans didn't know a thing about Adlai Stevenson or ever read John Steinbeck. So, the Republicans picked up an army of voters from these newly naturalized citizens. Years ago when I knew them, I asked why they voted GOP: "Because Republicans are tougher on the Commies than the Democrats." images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com
Decades later, those same folks (most of them are gone now) came to regret voting Republican after they aged and lost their health. These vulnerable elderly people became dependent on social security, Medicare, etc-- programs which are constantly imperiled by the Republicans.
They learned too late.
Hi Doc: To pay for all this, these people will have to suffer: mediaproxy.salon.com
This is the same USCP department that defended the Nation on 6 Jan 2021 from lunatics, now dragging out disabled and elderly Medicaid patients from the "people's house."
We may starve or die from medical neglect, but at least we'll be safe from nuclear Armageddon.
Hi Danni: A few weeks ago someone posted on DR an Argentine-American couple regretting voting for Trumpf because ICE detained their son. Argentinians know full well what dictatorship is, as you saw in the film, yet this couple still voted for Trumpf. Stupid is as stupid does.

Younger DR folks may not remember Karen Ann Quinlan who was artificially kept alive for ten years. Next month is the 40th anniversary of her passing.
In a permanent vegetative state, Karen Ann Quinlan was moved to the Morris View Nursing Home and cared for by Dr. Joseph Fennelly and six other physicians who volunteered their services.

Get ready for the AIPAC talking points: "This is a war;" "They should have voted for Kamala Harris;" "the leopards are eating their faces;" "They're all terrorists." Blah-blah-blah. No matter which American political party is in power, the Palestinian people have little to no friends in the US government.
The Palestinian people will go the way of the dodo.
