Olga Miranda, president of the SEIU Local 87 union, which represents thousands of janitors in the city, said immigration officials showed up at two buildings downtown on Friday. Federal immigration officials did not confirm the action when asked Monday. But an Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, official denied that the agency had any involvement in any action. Miranda declined to say which buildings were targeted, but said hundreds of her members who clean downtown offices stayed away from work Friday evening. Miranda said federal agents showed up in plain clothes and presented badges that said "Department of Homeland Security" to building security when asked, after initially being turned away. One set of agents showed up in the late afternoon carrying an arrest warrant for a specific person, but none of her members were arrested, Miranda said. read more

The federal process isn't as simple as crossing out the old name and writing in a new one. It's a complicated switch across the bureaucracy, involving a top-down effort to update official documents, communications, maps, and charts. read more

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump officials discovered that 50 million taxpayer dollars were allocated to fund condoms to be distributed in Gaza. "That is a preposterous waste of taxpayer money," Leavit said. A report by the Jerusalem Post claimed that Hamas operatives have been repurposing condoms to create balloons filled with inflammable gases to strike targets in southern Israel since 2017. These condoms attached with improvised explosive devices often land in schools, farm lands and roads. In 2019, they started attaching these condom bombs to rocket-propelled grenades. The helium filled in these condoms were initially imported for medical purposes with Israel consent. read more

Trump will ignore the courts and Congress will allow him to do so. And, as noted by LampLighter here, apparently voters are all in favor of Trump's approach.

Not only do the voters not seem to care ...

CBS News poll -- Trump has positive approval amid "energetic" opening weeks; seen as doing what he promised
www.cbsnews.com

... With most describing him as "tough," "energetic," "focused" and "effective" -- and as doing what he'd promised during his campaign -- President Trump has started his term with net positive marks from Americans overall.

Many say he's doing more than they expected -- and of those who say this, most like what they see. Very few think he's doing less. ...

Perhaps Dems should take a page out of Trump's book if they ever regain control of two branches of government again. Put that presidential immunity to work.

Can you imagine living in Germany and trying to prevent Hitler and the Third Reich but some ego-deficient candidate insisted on pulling votes away from the only candidate with any chance of defeating Hitler....er....I mean Trumpf?

I think you're ignoring the fact that Jill Stein wanted Trump to win.

Jill Stein: How and Why I Will Stop Kamala Harris Winning the White House
Newsweek September 30, 2024
Many Green party voters play dumb and pretend that they didn't want to help Trump take the White House. The reason being to avoid responsibility for the natural result of their votes, probably like they try to avoid taking responsibility in many other aspects of their lives.

Then they try to hide behind the electoral system to say their single vote was meaningless, but that logic would apply to every election which was decided by more than a single vote. As if election results are decided without the action or inaction of every voter having an incremental impact; and that electoral maps like 1984 occurred in a vacuum or are a figment of our imagination.

Reagan-Mondale-1984

Economic Protectionism and Tariffs
- The discussion begins with the context of the United States facing a significant economic depression, prompting the government to consider raising tariffs to protect domestic jobs.
- Raising tariffs leads to retaliation from other countries, which would increase their own tariffs, resulting in a cycle that could ultimately cost American jobs.
- The importance of international dialogue is emphasized, suggesting that to avoid such retaliatory measures, communication with other nations is essential.

Global Political Consequences
- The narrative shifts to the political climate in Germany and Japan, where the conditions are ripe for the rise of fascist regimes, highlighting the interconnectedness of global politics and economic decisions.
- The speaker reflects on the implications of the oil embargo, questioning whether it was a strategic error, particularly in the context of Roosevelt's fears regarding Japan's potential military actions against Russia.
- Roosevelt was concerned that if Japan attacked Russia, it could destabilize the region, leading to a scenario where Nazi Germany could gain an upper hand in Europe.

Hypothetical Scenarios and Outcomes
- A hypothetical scenario is presented where if Japan had not attacked the United States, the consequences could have been dire, with the Nazis potentially consolidating power globally.
- The speaker posits that the attack on Pearl Harbor, while tragic, ultimately diverted Japan's aggression towards the United States rather than towards Russia, which was seen as a lesser evil in the grand geopolitical landscape.
