Police in Westbrook Maine have apologized after being caught lying to the public after posting an AI-generated photo on social media of purported evidence seized during a drug bust. Members of the public quickly began questioning the obviously manipulated photo shortly after it was posted. A few days later the post was removed and replaced with a public apology acknowledging that the department had attempted to use an AI-powered photo editor to add their logo to an image taken from a drug bust and failed to realize that the app had made other significant changes to the image.
