I fully encourage all GOP candidates for Congress to embrace Bessent's message for the general election. Make it the primary message of your campaign and I promise you that nothing bad can happen, it can only good happen.

what part of "visual depiction" did you not understand?

And as to this hangup you have and "actual children", consider for a second what that would mean when it comes to prosecuting such cases.
If I'm a prosecutor handling a CSAM case then I'm going to have to locate the actual child depicted in the material and prove in court that they were a minor.
What about digital manipulation or AI? Does using Photoshop to change someone's hair color or skin tone mean that image is no longer a depiction of an actual person?
Is there a point that exists when a derivative stops being a depiction of actual people and becomes something totally unique and new?

I feel like what you suggest would make it nearly impossible to prosecute CSAM cases.

Especially if it's a private collection in somebody's dresser drawer that they never share.
This really is a form of Thoughtcrime.

Yes, the media does not matter nor does it matter whether a real child is involved, Realistic visual depictions that is of, or appears to be of, minors engaging in sex or other obscene acts are generally illegal to produce, distribute, possess with intent to distribute or be the knowing recipient of is illegal under federal law.

So if someone uses AI to create a spank bank of kiddie porn for their own use it's Okay under this law?

Did you not read the article? It very clearly states "The law bans the use of technology that generates fake nude images of real people."

That said CSAM that appears to be true-to-life, whether it is a true depiction of actual children or has been created/edited by digital means, is illegal under federal law.

If the images are private and not shown in public is mere possession of them a Crime?

You clearly do not understand what this law is about. The images targeted by this law are not private. They are being generated on a remote system and being transmitted over a public network. Many AI platforms permanently store the images that they generate. That video of the ten year old girl killed by a Russian bomb that prompted you to ask grok to recreate the pool scene from Fast Times only replacing Phoebe Cates with the bomb victim and you in place of Judge Reinhold is now Elon's property and he can show it to whoever he wants.

Even if the stick figure had a drawing of a particular person's face attached, is it child pornography?

I am actually surprised that it seems reason will out in this case and the improperly charged person will have his charges dropped. Getting awfully used to a DOJ and Executive Branch being all about lies and hate, so is a nice change of pace.

I think Pierro changed direction after Todd Blanche was recently referred for discipline. She knowns this was obviously malicious prosecution and decided to put her career ahead of Trump.

Where are all of the MAGATS who were decrying the so called weaponization of the DoJ not that long ago? They are awfully quiet about this actual weaponization of the DoJ.
