Infamy is more than a dismal Rotten Tomatoes score. The most reviled productions achieve longstanding notoriety through a combination of widespread exposure and unanimous disdain. For example, Cats was a) very bad and b) widely consumed by the masses -- relative to the average stinker -- and is therefore notable for being a "widely consumed thing that is very bad."

Back in the 80's this song had trouble being played on radio stations ...

en.wikipedia.org

...The song's title deals with the subject of racism in the radio industry, at a time when more cutting-edged songs and the radio stations in general were starting to open up to newer formats like rhythmic contemporary, which genre this song predates.

It also took on how station policies dictates what can or can not be played on air. This was evidenced by Johnson, who recalled how a radio station refused to play a song about an interracial relationship. That experience prompted Johnson and Gane to write about their feelings over this practice by recalling the events, in which they use lyrics like "I dream in Black and White" and call for stations in general to "Stand Up and Face the Music/This Is 1984!"[citation needed]

The single was also controversial in its own right, as radio stations avoided playing the single because of the song's title and lyrics[citation needed] despite being a modest hit in Canada, where it reached No. 26. In the United States, the single peaked at No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 2 on the Dance/Disco chart, where it reached number 2 in 1984.[2] ...

A voice inside mycar told me today

Black stations, white stations break down the doors
Stand up and face the music, this is 1984
Black stations, white stations feet on the floor
Dance on the ceiling with us, this is 1984, ha!

@#32

For the record, I'm not a fan of DEI.

I am a fan of people who are qualified to be placed in the position. That's what I endeavored to do when I was a hiring manager. And I have to say, the team was a mix of brown, white and black skin. But the skin color did not matter to me. The ability of the person did. And that team was great.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Be Not Too Hard (1974)

A fav, yet obscure, tune of mine from back in the day.

"Do-Wah-Diddy" Manfred Mann scored a base-clearing homer with this one, imo.

Lyrics excerpt ...

...
Be not too hard for life is short
And nothing is given to man
Be not too hard if he's sold or bought
For he must do the best he can

Be not too hard when he blindly dies
Fighting for things he does not own
Be not too hard when he tells lies
Or if his heart is sometimes stone

Be not too hard for soon he'll die
Often no wiser than he began
Be not too hard for life is short
And nothing is given to man

DONALD TRUMP; Congressional Record Vol. 162, No. 145 (2016)
www.congress.gov

...
DONALD TRUMP

Mr. REID. Madam President, virtually every time Donald Trump says or does something discriminatory--and that is often--the media relies upon a catalog of buzzwords to describe his actions. The press uses words like hateful, intolerant, bigot, extremist, prejudice, to name but a few.

Yet there is always one word that many of the press conspicuously avoid: Racist.

They never label Trump as a racist, but he is a racist. Donald Trump is a racist. ``Racist'' is a term I don't really like.

We have all, with rare exception -- I don't know who it would be -- said things that are not politically correct, but I don't know of anyone, when that happens, who doesn't acknowledge it and, if necessary, apologizes quickly, but Donald Trump doesn't believe the racist things he does and says are wrong.

He says them with the full intent to demean and to denigrate. That is who he is. ...

apnews.com

... CLAIM: When former KKK Grand Wizard Robert Byrd died in 2010, he was eulogized by Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

AP'S ASSESSMENT: Partly false. Biden did eulogize Sen. Robert C. Byrd when he died, but Byrd was not a "grand wizard" in the Ku Klux Klan. He was a member of the KKK in the early 1940s but later renounced his affiliation with the hate group. ...
