Considering an ectopic pregnancy is not and will never become a fetus, and is not and will never be in the uterus, and cannot be removed by vacuum aspiration, or via the vagina using any method Laparoscopic surgery through the abdominal wall is required to remove an ectopic pregnancy nd that is not the same medical procedure as an abortion, nor does it have the same CPT coding.

If you consider administering methotrexate to be a "Medical procedure", that will also will have different CPT coding because it will include the coding for the drug AND the diagnosis, which could be for termination of pregnancy, treatment of an ectopic pregnancy, or treating a Variety of other illnesses like endometriosis psoriasis, Crohn's disease or lymphoma. All of these have differnt CPT coding. Just because they use the same drug doesn't make them the same thing.

Agreed, and also, any facility offering emergency care has a legal department. It is their job to stay apprised of legislation that impacts their business and publish advisories to inform the non-lawyers on staff.

The thing that keeps getting left out of this intentionaly misleading story is that the woman did not simply "get an abortion", prompting an investigation. She did a DIY abortion without medical supervision (because it is illegal in TX) and then disappeared for an entire month. Her family and friends called police because they were concerned she may have experienced complications or be in medical distress. She met the criterion for a critically endangered missing person and THAT is the reason the officer utilized "83000 cameras" to locate her (likely done with a few mouseclicks). The abortion itself was not investigated or prosecuted.

Would it have been better if the officer had told the family, "I'm sorry your daughter is missing and maybe hemorrhageing in a hotel room, but since she had an abortion we are not allowed to look for her" ?

I would say neither. The leaders were specifically targeted, and they were living (not hiding) in residential areas. Hard not to end up with unintended civilian casualties when targeting people who live in populated areas.
