Poland 'Ready' to Station Nuclear Weapons on Its Territory

Poland is "ready" to host NATO nuclear weapons should the alliance move to reinforce its eastern flank bordering Russia, Warsaw has said.

"If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of nuclear sharing also on our territory to strengthen the security of NATO's eastern flank, we are ready for it," Polish President Andrzej Duda told Polish outlet Fakt in an interview published on Monday.

"If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of nuclear sharing also on our territory to strengthen the security of NATO's eastern flank, we are ready for it," Polish President Andrzej Duda told Polish outlet Fakt in an interview published on Monday.

More than two years of war in Ukraine has spurred NATO countries in eastern Europe"close to Russian territory"to invest heavily in their military strength, although they do not possess nuclear weapons. In the alliance, the U.S., the United Kingdom and France have nuclear weapons, but several European bases host U.S. tactical nuclear weapons.

Russia, which has the world's largest nuclear arsenal, said in June 2023 that it had started transferring tactical nuclear weapons to one of its key allies, Belarus. Russia used Belarus as a springboard for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Belarus borders NATO countries Poland and Latvia.

Poland and NATO member Lithuania also border the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, home to a significant Russian military presence and Moscow's Black Sea Fleet. The Kremlin is "increasingly militarizing" Kaliningrad, Duda said."

This isn't provocative at all.

Same with nuclear missiles in Cuba.

Cant imagine what the US was worried about.

lmao... Vlad puts nukes in Belarus, but it's NATO's Fault(tm) for even considering a similar response.

Some people can't see past their cowardly, short-sighted, self-abusive Chamberlain Tendencies.

"This isn't provocative at all."

It's not provocative, compared to Russia going to war against Ukraine.

"This isn't provocative at all."

Whiney Russian provocateur line if ever there was one.

Given Russia's current dedication to revanchist territorial expansion, this is a solid, smart move by Poland. They have plenty of experience with the Russia s and they're not hankering for more. Factor in Russia's acquisitive murderous pig behavior with a glance at a map and you'll see why the Putinistas will have fits over it. There's no threat posed to anyone by anything other than Putin's idiotic dreams of a re-formed USSR 2.0.

@#6 ... Given Russia's current dedication to revanchist territorial expansion, this is a solid, smart move by Poland. ...

Yup.

And likely, yet another of the unexpected results caused by Pres Putin's unprovoked invasion of a sovereign Ukraine.

Let Poland build their own nukes.

I'm sure Pakistan, India, or North Korea would love the Zlots.

Let's blow up the world because of the ideal of borders/nationalism! Humanity is secondary to the concept of a country. /s

I think it doubtful that Poland's president mentioned this plan when he called on Der Dotard recently. The world would have heard about it during the orange insurrectionist's next visit to the can.

Meanwhile, in Moscow:
Poland: You had better not. We mean it. Doing that would greatly upset us. There may be grave consequences. We mean it. Really. After we're done with Ukraine you could be next. Really. WE mean it...

Well, Ukraine had a lot of nukes, and signed an agreement with the West and with Russia, so they trusted those parties and gave up their nukes...we are watching how that worked out.
So sure, Poland would be smart to point out to all concerned, it will not be invaded again, and if the mass murderer Putin thinks he can invade without peril...

Whether they are willing or not, it's dumb for a couple of reasons I can
think of immediately.

1). they have one of the larger armored division groups in all of
Europe. Stupid to risk being targeted with a nuke/nukes.
2). hello. submarines, nuclear trident missles...
much rather lose a submarine, than a nation, in a nuclear war.
besides. subs are mobile. fire, move, go silent.

If there is one thing the president Cheney administration proved is that if you have nukes the likelihood of invasion is way way way down.

Because we now know that not only did Iraq never have WMD, but that the Cheney white house KNEW they didn't have WMD. And that is the only reason we invaded because Cheney wanted that Iraqi oil back on the world markets, and Bush II didn't want to be a one term president like his father was because his father defied the far right wing of his party when he raised taxes on the super rich.

But North Korea was off limits for any invasion because they really did have WMD. The world noticed and thus the world is most assuredly working feverishly to get their own nuclear weapons. Poland is just doing it the easier way.

Would the Polish government even have the launch codes for them or are they just being a sitting duck for nothing?

It's stupid to the limit to allow that and make their country a target.

It's even Stupider to give the Poles access to the launch codes.

What could possibly go wrong?

We should be deploying fewer Nukes, not more.
