OK, my first comment. Maybe the article could be worded better ...

It is not the care-givers who are struggling with the costs, but the care-receivers.

Having to had the need to help a 90+ year-old Mom over a hundred miles away, I was so happy when Meals-On-Wheels stepped in and assured me that she would have food.

There was no cost involved.

The costs outpace inflation while many many of the workers in the facilities earn minimum wage only with little to no benefits.

Where is the money going?

Do I really have to say it? No one gets a lifeline with Trump and MAGA.

Oh, there was a cost, you were just too cheap to pay. Meals on wheels takes donations or you could even donate your time and volunteer to deliver meals where you are located. But as typical for a leftist, let someone else do it.

I knew we could count on you to chime in with an unprovoked personal attack, V.

Do you make such accusatory remarks in your everyday encounters with people?

As a person that has done a lot of volunteer work with the homeless and Habitat for Humanity, I've become jaded with the welfare state. The problem here is that the elderly are spending their kids inheritance on healthcare. The kids don't want to or can't take care of mom but they feel entitled to mom's money. So just let society pay. Those of us that did take care of our parents or pay for our parents care, make us pay double.

Oh man, why didn't your parents pull themselves up by their bootstraps? Why didn't they save enough for retirement?

I'm sure the Republican plan to slash Medicare and Social Security will be a huge help though.

#8 | Posted by Sycophant at 2024-10-18 12:00 PM

Wahhh the economy wasn't stacked enough in the favor of boomers! How were they supposed to save for retirement when college cost 200 bucks and a house cost 15 grand?

#9 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-10-18 12:18 PM

Time to give them more advantages, paid for by people who pay 100k for college and a half mil for a house!

Seems like you just made a pretty good case for universal care. You know, like the rest of the developed world has. I'd be quite happy to pay higher taxes so that nobody goes bankrupt buying care.

Lamplighter's the one neglecting his mother and wants the rest of us to pay for her care so she doesn't have to dip into his inheritance.

I don't know why you care Yoda, but Open Door Mission and Loaves and Fishes. I've helped frame, insulate, install windows, siding and dry wall on 11 homes for Habit for Humanity. When I had a CDL I used to deliver for Habitat for Humanity Restore.

What a saint. Then you turn around and vote for the reaganomics that is ruining the lives you think you're helping.

It's really pretty impressive, the Jim Jones quality Culting Trump has accomplished, eh?

When Kamala proposes taxing billionares rather than giving them breaks paid for by taxpayers, with interest... something they would profess to be for... they know she's lying. Because Trump says so.

Hey, I'll give you some credit for your volunteer work, Visitor. And I mean that.

I just don't understand, though, the personal attack on Lamplighter - and indeed, the constant attacks that Trump obviously enjoys and which are the stock-in-trade of the MAGA-dominated Republican Party. They create needless animosity and over time lead to a huge schism and an unwarranted erosion of faith in the American system.

There's a quote that's often attributed to the late Robin Williams (although it may have started with someone else) that goes, "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle that you know nothing about. Be kind always." Kindness is not weakness, and in fact, it takes more courage to put aside your own ego and be decent to others than it does to belittle and bully them. Pay attention to the things Trump says. How often does he say something uplifting or helpful versus how often he mocks and threatens? Is an obnoxious bully really someone you want to emulate? Someone you want running the country?

... and you know that how?

fwiw, I was a care-giver for my Mom until she passed when she was in her 90's.

But really, I have to ask, why such a vicious ad hominem attack?

#19 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-10-18 06:41 PM

@#17 ... I just don't understand, though, the personal attack on Lamplighter ...

My guess is that AI bots don't yet understand that.

speaking of Robin Williams, some one text messaged me today something about him. The said when he would be signed for a movie he would ask the Ptoducer to also find jobs that homeless oeople could be employed to do and thus helped a quite large number of homeless people to find employment.

#21 | Posted by Danni at 2024-10-19 12:18 AM

That quote sounds like something President Jimmy Carter would say.

#22 | Posted by Hans at 2024-10-19 12:25 AM

Hans I'm sorry it was just a message on my phone but I liked what it said about Robin Williams even though I couldn't actually quote it.

I read an article the other day about the causes of inflation and it basically explained inflation as the federal government not taking in enough revenue to pay all the bills so the Treasury just prints more dollars to make up the shortfall but if we repealed the Reaga, Bush, Bush, Trump tax cuts for the rich there would be plenty of money to pay the ills including home-health care for seniors which would help their working age children, who are raising families, live within their bufdgets more comfortably!

#23 | Posted by danni at 2024-10-19 12:41 AM

Danni-the top personal tax rate when Reagan started that whole tax cutting disaster was 47%, and that's when our national debt started to mushroom. I really can't say if it was reinstated today whether we could sustain prosperity and get that debt down or not. Everybody paying their fair share would certainly result in what you posted, but that debt is the elephant in the room.

#24 | Posted by Yodagirl at 2024-10-19 03:27 PM

yeah because these facilities know boomers have sucked up all the wealth in society, and now they want to extract it for their rich owners instead of letting it be inherited and re entering the economy.
