Walgreens Locked Up Stuff to Stop Shoplifting & Hurt Sales

The pharmacy chain's CEO Tim Wentworth said in Walgreens Boots Alliance's first-quarter earnings call Tuesday that "When you lock things up ... you don't sell as many of them. We've kind of proven that pretty conclusively."

I'm just spit balling here, but I suppose one strategy would be for the government to create a body to arrest people who steal and then for a separate governmental body to try them for their crimes and sentence them to criminal punishment.

I know, just crazy-talk.

Also worth noting, despite locking stuff up, "shrinkage" increased by 52%.

So they scared away paying customers and still got ripped off.

Democrats strangely love and protect criminals. If only all DAs prosecuted and incarcerated the trash every law abiding American and every business would be better off. These shop lifters are like harmful cockroaches that only multiply and make things worse. Incarcerate them to remove the threat and make it permanent if they repeat.

Probably Walgreens needs to hire enough people to watch their inventoey and serve their customers.

The local Walgreens had trouble competing with the locally-owed pharmacy, and eventually closed.

I went into that Walgreens once and bought an OTC drug.

As I was checking out, the cashier looked at the label of the drug I purchased and proceeded to lecture me (minutes!) about some odd homeopathic concerns about that drug.

Her job was to scan the item I purchased and process my credit card.

It was not her job to deliver lectures.

That was the last time I went to that local Walgreens.

Instead, I'm going to call it "Pokin Around" because I don't want to label it an "Answer Man." I doubt I'm going to get an answer.

At least not in this decade.

A reader, who will remain unnamed, told me he recently went condom-shopping and for the first time did so at the Walmart Supercenter at 2021 E. Independence St. in Springfield.

He was stunned by the store's condom protocol, if there is such a thing.

He found what he was looking for, but it was in a locked display. He had never seen such security, such protection.

To make his purchase, he had to flag down a store employee to open the display. He found this rather awkward.

And then, he was told he was not allowed to carry the condoms with him as he continued his shopping " he had to immediately pay for them at the pharmacy or drop them off there and pay when he was ready to check out.

This seemed very odd to him.

It seems odd to me. ...

Democrats allow criminal illegals and thieves and mobs to freely steal and then complain because stores close or lock up products. Better idea is lock up the thieves and take them off the streets. Lock them up for a year. If they repeat lock them up for 10 years. They will learn or die in prison.

It would require raising taxes too. Something those that are screaming the loudest are against as well.

I disagree.

The for-profit prison industry seems to be more that accommodating of new, I'll say, clients.

And I will also add, after my comments on the for-profit healthcare industry, we also need to look at the for-profit prison industry.

I wouldn't go so far as executing them Censored, that's a bit extreme. However, ankle monitors to be worn for one year so as to easily track whereabouts seems like a more enforceable solution that would also help easily catch them and return them to prison since they lack the ability to behave as a productive member of society.

Also, for profit prisons are the way to go.

I'm a "rip the bandaid off quickly" sort of guy. Granted, that may cause the scab to open up, fester, and end up requiring amputation of the limb or sepsis causing death. But that's the way I roll.

2. would increase expenses and drive up prices

3. the most important; people are freely and openly stealing stuff right in front of employees, they don't care because the employees can't or won't do anyhting to stop them

Some real deterrence goes a long way toward curbing shop lifting. But that requires local leaders to empower local law enforcement to do its job and then DA's to actually prosecute these thieves.
