Musk Bet Me $1M the U.S. Would Not See 35K Cases of Covid, says Sam Harris

Podcaster Sam Harris claims his friendship with Elon Musk ended after a $1 million COVID-19 bet over U.S. case numbers.

More

After the CDC reported 35,000 deaths from COVID-19 a few weeks later, Harris said he texted Musk: "Is (35,000 deaths + 600,000 cases) > 35,000 cases?"

Comments

"The text went unanswered, according to Harris, who cites the message as the end of their years-long friendship.

"Let this be a cautionary tale for any of Elon's friends who might be tempted to tell the great man something he doesn't want to hear," Harris said in the post.

Musk publicly criticized the early concerns surrounding COVID-19 in 2020, stating in an X post, "The coronavirus panic is dumb."

As the pandemic spread, he became increasingly skeptical of COVID-19 vaccines and also attacked former chief medical advisor to the President of the United States, Anthony Fauci, who oversaw the country's response to the pandemic.

In December 2022, Musk called for Fauci's prosecution, posting on X: "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci."

'

"He praised Musk as a remarkable person who was "probably the most likely to remain a world-historical figure" but also "the most likely to squander his ample opportunities to live a happy life, ruin his reputation and most important relationships, and produce lasting harm across the globe.

"Any dispassionate observer of Elon's behavior on Twitter/X can see that there is something seriously wrong with his moral compass, if not his perception of reality," he said."

Every MAGA knows that only 35,000 Americans died during COVID.

Snoofy running around like chicken little squawking three million dead by April. Same poster who claimed he was an essential employee, but opted to stay home and collect unemployment because, well, it was free money.

In many respects, I would agree.

Stated differently, will Mr Musk's ability to be remarkable at times be able to overcome the apparent aspect of ~everything Trump touches dies?~

@#6

Not a big deal to me, it was a test flight. Stuff happens during test flights.

I remember watching the NASA early test flights on TV back in the 60's.

My question would be, what was learned from this test?

Getting back to the topic of this thread ...

Mr Musk bet that the cases of COVID-19 in the US would not top 35,000 cases?

OK, and I will be blunt...

How clueless was he?

And, as a follow-up question ... why does that opinion of his led anyone to believe his opinions in the future?

#11 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-01-16 11:27 PM

How clueless was he?

The kind of people who think Musk is super smart are the kind of people who think Trump is really rich.

And like a little bitch he runs away when proven wrong.

Just like he ran away from the fight with zuckerberg.

So, Musk was just as stupid then as he is today. Trump told us COVID would just go away when winter was over but guess what MAGAs are still just as stupid now as they were then. Apparently stupidity is not cured by warmer weather. MAGAs will die just as stupid as they were born. But take solace knowing Donald Trump will too. Trump's big mistake was made when his father died and left him millions of dollars but Donald somehow thought he earned it. Truth told Donald never earned anything in his stupid life. Well unless you consider selling national secrets to Putin for money earning it.
