Trump Intensifies Statehood Threats in Attack on Canada

The U.S. president on Tuesday reiterated his claims on Canada's territory as he increased tariffs, threatening to bring the country's economy to its knees.

The attacks President Trump aimed at Canada extended beyond imposing more tariffs on America's neighbor and NATO ally, and laid out in the clearest terms yet his vision for annexing Canada and making it part of the U.S.[image or embed]

Why are you outraged by click bait.

If you read the article, its does nothing to explain explicitly how Trump has intensified the "attack on DialAgain & Canada"

I bet 100 bucks you didn't read the article because of a paywall for the NYT.

Canada will never become part of the United States. It would be one of the biggest mistakes the conservative parties could possibly make.

"The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State," Mr. Trump wrote on social media. "This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem."

Mr. Trump has cited the flow of undocumented migrants and fentanyl into the United States in placing tariffs on goods from Canada.Credit...Jason Redmond/Agence France-Presse " Getty Images
Echoing his private comments to Mr. Trudeau in their February phone call, he said about the border: "The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear.''

He also said "O Canada," the national anthem, "will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!"

Much of the world has been seeing Mr. Trump's fixation with annexing Canada as a joke, or merely bluster to push for concessions on trade and other forms of economic integration. It's been regarded as the least realistic and plausible of Mr. Trump's territorial ambitions, which also include annexing Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, and wanting to reclaim the Panama Canal.

But Canadian political leaders, and Canadians at large, have been taking Mr. Trump deadly seriously.

GFY liar. When you got nothing ... lie.

Canada does not owe us a dime. In fact apparently we owe them.

As of April 2024, Canada owned $328.7 billion of US debt, making it the fifth largest foreign holder of US debt.

The last trade deal Trump made with Canada was, of course, 'perfect!".

So perfect that now what is basically the same deal is criminal conduct on Canada's part.

But hey, what time is it? Trump changes his mind more often than he changes his diapers.

"Canada's been ripping us off"

Explain why Trump allowed Canada to rip us off from 2017 to 2021.

Also, name the things Trump allowed Canada to steal from us.

#23 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-03-12 04:03 PM

The central American political question of out time is how do we respond to a genuine madman who is President of the United States?

Look, he's just getting worse. And worse, and worse, and worse. Economic calamity is just the start of our problems.

Donald Trump needs psychiatric help, for his sake and for ours.

explicitly how Trump has intensified the "attack on...Canada"

POSTED BY ONEIRONAUT

Trump states that our border with Canada is artificial and void, for a start.

Historically, words like this are a prelude to war.

- an example of why test grades are decreasing.

You should be pleased... lower test grades equals more Republicans; education level being the best way these days to predict elections. The lower the level the more chance they vote Republican. Fact.

#28 | Posted by Corky at 2025-03-12 04:11 PM

Trumps been talking about moving the border of Canada enough to steal their pipeline.

Our allies are under attack from our potus. This is the definition of insanity.

#29 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2025-03-12 04:12 PM

#7 | Posted by fishpaw

Where was all this talk during Trump's first term? There was none. Let that sink in.

Then swallow it.

#30 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2025-03-12 04:12 PM

Trump is insane.

This Canada insanity is not a stand alone insane idea. Taken together with the Oval Office gang beat-down, the stoopid notion that Russia didn't invade Ukrain, there is no doubt he is 'not right'.

The madness of King Cheeto continues...

#31 | Posted by Wardog at 2025-03-12 04:12 PM

Trump ---- with Canadians.

And that's Presdential? You're proud of it?

He's President of the US and Canada is an extremely close ally.

WTF is the logic here other than being a complete -------?

It's Daylight Saving Time! How did that happen, anyway? Lewzer was going to get rid of it.

Promises made. Promises not kept. I'm beginning to see a pattern. LOL.

Canada and Mexico helped extract us from OPEC... Trumpanzee decided to insert us back into the muck

USSECSTATE Marco Rubio is in Quebec this week with other G7 FMs, but they won't be discussing annexing Canada according to America's top diplomat. I guess they'll be playing Bridge. "Three No Trump" (3NT) is the contract.

idk what everyone is worried about, the richest Provence in Canada is poorer than the poorest state in America.

Wouldn't be surprised if DialAgain is using an acoustic couple modem.

#36 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-03-12 05:00 PM

The poorest red states have worse healthcare and illiteracy rates.

Why would Canadians want to join the USA where life expectancy is lower than Cuba? Canadians live four (4) years longer than Americans. No offense to Cuba.

#38 | Posted by FortNecessity at 2025-03-12 05:07 PM

If you read the article, its does nothing to explain explicitly how Trump has intensified the "attack

It doesn't "explain explicitly"?

You re tar ds are sure the Bidens are guilty of God knows what based on some fantasy email from back in 2020, that no one could substantiate.

But unless Trump explicitly explains what his plans are, then it's just click bait.

The only clicking going on is your last two brain cells bouncing off each other in your empty head.

Canada was involved in the war in Afghanistan for over 12 years, from 2001 to 2014, the longest in the country's history. They were fighting along side our troops. During WW2 Canada had boots on the ground in Europe 2 years before the US. Canada doesn't owe us a thing.

Besides Fishstick... the US hasn't won a war in 80 years... so not many nations expect as much security from us as you seem to believe... if anything... and truth be told...we have made major demands on our allies the last 35 years... a couple of coalitions even... chasing our tails... trillions p!$$ed away on republicl0wn follies... economic burdens placed on our allies... which is why they are reluctant... I don't blame them... the US p!$$eS infinite amounts of money losing war after war.

Baby boomers are dying and with us the last vestiges of a direct tie to WW2... via our parents who fought that last glory battle... It's fading into a story with little meaning.

Russia, China, Korea, Israel, France, and the US chest thumping and threats with weapons they can never use... Iran wants to join in fun... I don't blame them...

Pull your head out of your $tup!d f@t @$$ you ignorant and ungrateful little kuk. When it comes to war and defense nobody owes us a thing.

Pres Trump has said his tariffs will bring auto manufacturing jobs back to the US from Canada, and that would help US auto workers.

Now, he wants to make Canada the 51st state, which means that auto manufacturing there would not have to move to the US to avoid tariffs.

Indeed, if it is less expensive for auto manufacturing in Canada, more auto manufacturing may move to the 51st state.

Reducing the jobs available for auto workers in the "lower 48" states.

Is this an inherent contradiction in what Pres Trump has been saying?

#48 | Posted by Zed at 2025-03-12 06:20 PM

In regards to Canada, if there is to be a war there will be US troop movements seen beforehand.

Everyone knows that if Trump attacks Canada or Greenland that NATO is obliged to defend them?
